That's a [expletive] terrible plan with Jake starting. BTW Cahill has been spotted in the Cubs clubhouse today, I wonder if the Cubs are considering starting him today and moving everyone up a spot. They are going to have to use a 6th starter at some point between now and next Tuesday's DH

No he's starting a game Tuesday. Iowa is on a road trip so they had him come to Chicago early to do his work here and travel less.

Doesn't it at least make sense to consider it if the Cubs seem to be aiming for 5 innings today? With the off day on Monday, I don't think anyone's schedules would be thrown off. DFA Joe Ross and call Cahill up.

Edit: I guess on the flipside, the Cubs have a 13 game divison lead so Jake only throwing 5 innings and like 70 pitches isn't a terrible thing.

Counterpoint, Wainwright stinks we can get out to an early lead while god mode is activated for 5-6 innings and Arrieta only throws 60-70 pitches then we get the win and the game is called early.

So what's the consensus on who they will throw at today? Because you know it's coming.

Oh, it's going to be someone important. STL won't let an unintentional pitch that injured an expensive, unproductive player go by without going after someone important. It'll be one of Bryzzo.

Bryant, Arrieta or Rizzo. Hopefully they just hit Szczur to start the game and get it over with

if we're being hopeful, Yadi will break his thumb on the ricochet

Hopefully Joe is in the umps ear pre-game about the impending bean ball coming and the ump throws out Wainwright when he does it. That would be high comedy

Rizzo, because he dared take a pitch the ump called a ball.

The Cardinals fans will say he got that call because he stands so far over the plate anything inside looks like a ball, so they need to throw at him so he backs off the plate.

Is anyone else a lunatic when watching games at home? My wife banished me to the basement when I watch the Cubs.

How funny would it be if every Cub batter came up today wearing one of those helmets with the long earpieces to protect their face/head from the Cardinals headhunting. Basically acknowledging that the Cardinals have a reputation as retaliators and we know those douches are going to throw at us.

As I typed the previous post I was listening to Kaps show when a cardinal fan called in and said that the Cardinals should absolutely throw at the Cubs to show that they aren't going to back down. He then went on to say that the Montomgery pitch was 100% intentional and the game situation didn't matter because the Cubs were up 12 games so if there was ever an opportunity to throw at a Cardinal it would be that exact moment.

I realize that makes absolutely no sense I'm just repeating what he said

In this order: Bryant, Rizzo, Jake

I'm thinking Rizzo -> Willson -> Bryant

I don't think Matheny or Wainwright stoop low enough to throw at a pitcher if they do decide to throw at someone.

I still think that one was Tony Watson gone rogue.
