That's great news. As long as he recovers, shouldn't impact us all that negatively. Who knows, his arm might be well rested and he becomes super stropy

If he can be back for the playoffs, that's just peachy. Strop-Edwards-Rondon-Chapman Bullpen of Doom is nice.

Not only that, but it gives Edwards a chance to continue to thrive in the 7th inning (although Joe loves him some Travis Wood so I suspect he won't be the full time 7th guy), and gives Grimm the roster spot to continue to prove that he is over his early season struggles

Westbrook came back lightning quick from this. Rose did well with it 2nd time around.

Guy on espn1000 said its even less severe for baseball players which makes sense.

Anybody have baseball players meniscus tears to reference.

Victor Martinez tore his meniscus in February of 2015, had surgery on February 10th, and was playing on April 6 of that year. Which was their opening day.

Sucks that it's his left knee though. Thankfully it's not worse.

I know the left leg is the landing leg for a RHP, but there's also a good amount of weight/pressure/torque/whatever put on the right knee for a RHP as that's the leg they are driving off of the rubber with. I don't think an injury to one knee is overly worse than the other.

Yeah that's a good point. Hard to say which would be worse, if at all.

Manager Joe Maddon said Wednesday night that Joe Smith, who was acquired from the Angels an hour before the Aug. 1 trade deadline, would assume more late-inning duties despite the ascent of 24-year-old rookie reliever Carl Edwards Jr.

Ugh.

Jake McGee tore his meniscus in his left knee last year in mid-late August and needed surgery, he had two appearances after the surgery on September 30th and October 3rd.

hadn't thought about that angle.

Also any potential lingering issues when he returns are eased by the fact that he is pitching 1 inning and 15-20 pitches, not a starter who is landing on that leg 100+ times.

Ugh.

The fact that he put him in against Trout and Pujols tells me this statement is indeed, a lie.

6 weeks from tomorrow is 9/23. Will probably need some more rehab time too.

But yeah, this is probably the best case scenario after the injury last night.

on the plus side, he only needs to work his way back to throwing an inning or so at a time.

Ugh.

They were saying on the score this morning that even though Edwards is going to see higher leverage spots, he isn't going to necessarily see an innings uptick (i.e. back to back days or 4 appearances in 5 days) because they still want to be careful with him since he had some injury problems in the minors.

That makes sense. I just don't want Joe Smith having any part of "late innings".

Much, much better news than it could have been.

I also don't believe Joe for a second about Joe friggin Smith taking high leverage spots from Carl Edwards. On the other hand, with Rondon gimpy as well we should expect some of these dudes we acquired to get real innings so buckle up
