Did Chris Bosio get signed by the Cardinals to actively start sabotaging us? I can't think of a single pitcher on the roster besides Hendricks who hasn't horsefeathers the bed these last few weeks. Even Rondon has blown 3 of his last 5 save attempts, which are now infrequent because we are losing too much.

What a stupid game to lose. I fully expect the Reds to get 2 off Strop just because.

I'm going to punch you in the tit

hey this might be the first thing he has ever accurately predicted, now is a time to celebrate this momentous occasion.

In no way, shape, or form was our staff as good as it had looked up until recently. We need a starter just as much as we do a reliever.

we do? for what purpose, to replace second half hammel? the other four guys obviously aren't much of a problem.

haven't most of those rondon blown saves been related to the stupid 4 out attempts he's been handed for no good reason? Also, it's been like a week and a half of mattress soiling. I do not think the pitching coach has sabotaged them.

Yeah, I take 2nd half Hammel seriously. I also think guarding against injury is a good idea.

lol, I know just venting. Just seems like nothing we've put out there is working during this stretch. Every starter is laboring to get through 5, some are getting shelled, reliable relievers giving up runs, etc etc.

I know we'll be fine, just letting off some steam.

well, hammel is probably coming back next season since he's on a $10m club option next year, which looks to be a bargain. if he comes back then they've already got 5 starters signed for 2017, plus guys like warren, cahill and wood can easily be stretched out to throw a few innings as spot starters and long relievers.

i don't see how starter is remotely as urgent a need as a strong 7th/8th inning (preferably LH) reliever.

I wanna say one or two had inherited runners score.

I think Warren joining the rotation and the talk about a 6 man rotation after the break is a way to give them the chance to take a preventative measure against injury(specifically Arrieta/Lester) or a downturn in productivity(like second half Hammel). Relievers are probably the more immediate need, but the Cubs probably don't have to choose, and dealing for a starter is likely going to be more difficult to finagle than shoring up the pen.

I'm not sold on Warren(although its probably just a down year) and I think we could add a Hill or maybe Smyly. How you use them? No idea, but I think either could really help the staff overall.

I'm all about Rich Hill right now. Move Hammel to the pen for August and go with a 6 man rotation in Sep if we don't piss the lead away. Hill's working on 100 innings over the last two seasons of being an ace, and could help soften the blow of 2nd half Hammel, Hendricks getting tired, and/or Arrieta remaining human. Go cheap with the bullpen like a Boone Logan, and tell the Yankees to horsefeathers off. I believe in Edwards, so I feel slightly better about the bullpen than I did a few weeks ago.
