Still not sure how I feel about this trade. I know Mendy's star had fallen but I'd have thought we could get something more if we ended up trading him. Oh well.

I think we just got more value out of Coghlan in two games than we would have gotten out of Alcontera all year

Possibly career

They even taught LaStella how to flop and roll like a seal in Iowa.

Javy Baez thinks that looks like Javy Baez, and Javy Baez is impressed.

who goes? patton, peralta, candelario?

I'd hope Peralta, but I'd guess Candelario just because he doesn't have an opportunity for everyday AB's up here.

I wonder if they wait until Thursday to activate LaStella and send Jeimer down for Warren and go with a short bench in case we need to empty the bullpen tomorrow? Then Peralta gets shot to the moon for LaStella Thursday

Concepcion is eligible to come back either Thursday or Friday, and Richard looks close enough to healthy to be recalled, so healthy arms probably isn't a huge concern even if they bring La Stella back for a RP tomorrow.

So this ended up being an amazing trade.

Coghlan's been worth a full win in 119 PA. He's been good defensively, despite me still having no faith in him out there. His BB% with the Cubs is 16.8%. His OBP is over .400. And he just looks much better lately. He was doing that weird thing where he was backing away from pitches that were on the outside of the zone. And his swing looked like junk when he came over here. But he seems locked in right now. To see the biggest reason for his improvements, look at his 15-game rolling average on Contact%:

He went from a guy that I was fine with just releasing to a guy I am more than fine with starting in the playoffs.

I'm pretty indifferent to Coghlan because he's a super boring baseball player and human being, but it does irk me how it seems like a pretty large undercurrent of meatball Cubs fans treat him like he's the new Theriot/Barney-type of folk hero to them. That James Tiberius Yorke dork people were railing on in the game thread is a BIG fan.

Ewww.

I feel like every time he doesn't screw up royally is a bonus. Which I know is unfair, but that's where I'm at.
