We really need to get better relievers beyond Rondon Strop and Grimm. I know it's a luxury to have good Middle relievers but we don't have a ton of other holes to fix right now.

I was going to say we have Warren, but his peripherals have been trash this year.

What would it take to get Andrew Miller if the Yanks keep scuffling?

I wouldn't do Contreras for a reliever, but someone is going to offer more than Vogelbach for him.

Yeah he will get more than Vogelbach.

Where is everyone getting the idea that Richard was getting unlucky when two of the three hits were solid line drives?

Yeah but it's still unlucky. If the first ball was more solidly hit its right at heyward and if the second one isn't right in the hole it's at least one out and probably a double play. If Warren gets a one hop double play ball here, you can't argue he had a better inning in terms of the contact made.

This loss would be entirely on Joe. Unbelievable.

I mean, in a game where the Cubs have like one hit there is blame to go around.

Not "like" one hit. One hit

I was worried I might have missed like an infield hit and wanted to be cautious.

it's pretty impressive how many games the cubs have won considering that for much of the season they've been using a 23 man roster (richard and federowicz don't count as actual baseball players)

If the liner had gone right at Heyward, that's unlucky for the batter, not the pitcher. Line drives have a BABIP of something like .800.

Look, lets be clear, the ump is to blame mostly for running up Arrieta's pitch count, but there is blame to go around... not that you can win every game, but you should win every Arrieta game...

Hahahaha wut?

Neither did Ramirez.

i hate clayton horsefeathering richard as much as anyone, but middle relievers are generally unreliable. this isn't some shocking new development.

it's not likely the cubs have the best players at every position and situation exclusively. and, even if they did, it's baseball so lots of times it wouldn't matter.

face it, we are spoiled.

It's true that this team is horsefeathering stacked and when your biggest weakness is having a bullpen that is middle of the pack at worst, you truly have a special team on your hands. I think people around here are most upset because there's no reason for Richard to be on the team when Theo could probably go out and get a lefty who's at least marginally better than Richard without giving up any significant pieces. It's not like our lefty specialist has to be as good as Chapman, he just needs to not be trash. And Richard has been trash of the St. Louis variety.
