Maybe Joe has been trying to convince Theo to get Richard off the team and he was making a statement?

My thoughts exactly.

If so, it's worth the loss.

This loss would be entirely on Joe. Unbelievable.

Well, the Cubs would still have to score at some point.

This is true, but putting in your worst reliever in a tie game is indefensible.

Can I overreact the other way and say it was three singles and none of them were that hard hit and if the second one was 15 feet to the left or right we'd have one guy on with two outs?

no.

I thought #2 was a double play off the bat, but the first and third were both hit fairly hard.

I don't like that Arietta's streak may end that way. Though I suppose there isn't exactly a way I'd want it to end.

Dumbest Joe decision since he elected to not walk Goldschmidt in April

That was still worse, but this is close, if they don't get rid of Richard, there's a serious mental block somewhere...

I don't think they will until they find another lefty

I mean, in a game where the Cubs have like one hit there is blame to go around.

Okay, fair point. But putting in Richard into a tie game is like actively pencilling in a run for the opponent.

WHYYYYY is Clayton Richard used in pivotal moments? I don't get it. Why is Joe afraid to use Grimm and Warren and Strop.

You expect the LOOGY to get lefties out. It's more on management than anyone.

I briefly read that as "Warren Sapp" and thought he might be an upgrade over Richard

Not "like" one hit. One hit

Your top lefty arm was entirely unavailable and your top three relievers all pitched yesterday. Leading off an inning against three lefties isn't the worst call. That Pederson line out is the hardest hit ball of the inning.

I don't think Terry Mulholland is doing much these days and I'm pretty sure he could give us better innings than Richard.

I'd rather it end with no decision than a loss.

Where is everyone getting the idea that Richard was getting unlucky when two of the three hits were solid line drives?

What would it take to get Andrew Miller if the Yanks keep scuffling?

I wouldn't do Contreras for a reliever, but someone is going to offer more than Vogelbach for him.

We really need to get better relievers beyond Rondon Strop and Grimm. I know it's a luxury to have good Middle relievers but we don't have a ton of other holes to fix right now.

Look, lets be clear, the ump is to blame mostly for running up Arrieta's pitch count, but there is blame to go around... not that you can win every game, but you should win every Arrieta game...
