So uhh.. any chance Chris Sale is on the block at the deadline?

They're too dumb to realize they should be rebuilding and also probably wouldn't deal with us for stupid reasons.

What Tim said about Reinsdorf not wanting to sit thru a rebuild at 80 yo. But there are dumb reasons why they won't trade w/ Cubs.

If you believe Kaplan on twitter, that Schwarber-Andrew Miller thing wasn't just made up. Apparently the Yankees proposed it, and the Cubs said no.

Everybody is gonna ask for the moon from the Cubs right now.

Giants: Can we have Shawon Dunston Jr.?

Cubs: Sure. Can we have Madison Bumgarner.

Giants: No.

Cubs: Make it a player to be named later.

Trading for Abad would not be ... a bad move.

Haha... Jim Bowden threw out the idea of Jose Bautista to the Cubs as a rental.

Yeah, that's been out there for a while. I'm confused why people think Toronto will be selling, but if they do start selling it would be amazing.

he's the one it makes sense to sell. he's old and is going to be a FA

Well, sure. But I think they're going to stay in the race is what I was trying to imply.

Olney doesn't think that Schwarber or Baez would be an unreasonable ask for Andrew Miller......

What is a reasonable ask for Miller? Happ, Caratini and Jeimer?

I could see Jeimar intriguing the Yankees. Headley has been ass this year and they don't have much in the pipeline at third (or really anywhere). I'd be more willing to give up more for Betances than the other two, but I don't want to pay a king's ransom either. Yanks could try to use the Ken Giles trade as framework for a Betances deal.

Just to give a somewhat mathematical starting point, Miller has been about a 2 win reliever for a couple years now, which puts him consistently among the Top 10 relievers. Let's say that he gets a 50% bump on that value because of the high leverage of relief(generous) and also say that he'll stay at that threshold through the rest of his contract and not decline(unlikely). That means for the 2.5 years you have Miller he's giving you 50ish million in value and being paid about 23 million. That surplus value is below Contreras in trade value, never mind silliness like Schwarber or Baez. The Yankees(being who they are)might need greater value to deal him, and prices are higher at the deadline, which is fine. That doesn't mean that the Cubs should be remotely interested in that deal though, especially since they have 2 very good high leverage relievers already.

Where do they put Miller? I'm all for redundancy in the bullpen, but I'd rather not pay a premium for it. Then again, Grimm hasn't exactly set the world on fire this year.

I don't like giving up hitters for relief pitchers, but whatever, I trust the brain trust.

Which is why I understand the Yankees making outlandish demands, not that I'd want to be the ones to meet them. And I doubt that we will.

But when you're the Yankees, at least in their mind, they can lose 100 games this year and effortlessly buy a 100 win team for next. They've got a ton of cash coming off the payroll over the next 2 years- Texeira, Sabbathia, and Beltran after 2016 and A Rod after 2017, all of which I have to imagine they'll go right out and spend it all on the shiniest objects available. So if they do trade an asset such as Betances or Miller, it's going to be for nothing short of a big league ready impact player or a package including multiple top 25 prospects.

The Yankees are are run by a couple of guys who aren't their father and want to make as much money as possible. They aren't buying a 100 win team. It's more likely that they will follow the Cub model, than the George Steinbrenner model.

I would LOVE Miller. In fact, I may get laughed at, but I'd consider moving Torres for him. But it'd be an overpay and there's other options out there that are suitable and much cheaper. My gut tells me Miller stays put because the asking price is way too high.

Soler and Candelario is in the range of what I figure we'd offer.
