Sonny Gray and his 6+ ERA went on the DL with a strained right trapezius muscle.

San Francisco Chronicle[/url]"]We just made a decision to try to knock this thing out as quickly as possible and not look back from it,” Gray said Sunday.

Gray said he got a cortisone/anti-inflammatory shot for the issue Friday and he believes he will not miss a great deal of time. He said he got treatment for the muscle strain in the trapezius and his neck before his start at Tampa Bay last Sunday and it felt OL during that game but it nagged a bit during the week.

Is a trap injury considered no big deal for pitchers? Or are they one of those things that often precipitates a more serious elbow or shoulder injury? Ie "forearm tightness" and elbow injuries.

Trading a pick to get rid of the salary is bizarre. Baltimore should've just DFA'd him if they didn't want him. Unless they just love one of those prospects I guess.

Those prospects aren't that good.

I've wanted Matusz as a Jake 2.0 reclamation project for a while now. Was once the #5 prospect in all of baseball. Jake never cracked the Top 60. Given Baltimore's horrible pitching philosophy, I would not be surprised if the Cubs can fix Matusz and, at the very least, turn him into another Hendricks type.

I feel like there's a pitcher version of the Rizzo trade out there and that Daniel Norris is a damn good candidate.

He'd fit out philosophy and market inefficiency of acquiring players who kicked cancer's ass.

Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop say hi.

It would be nice if we could find another Arrieta though.

Jim Bowden, who's somehow a worse armchair/columnist GM than he was a real life GM and also has a haircut so bad that its only rival is Mark Davis, has a column today saying Jose Bautista would be a target for us and we are the #1 landing spot for him at the deadline if made available. Okay, Jim.

Well, if Toronto feels like they're out of the race, he's likely one of the first pieces moved. He's old and a FA after this season so the acquisition cost shouldn't be too terribly high. It's certainly not the craziest thing he's said.

Yeah, it makes sense from a connect the dots perspective, but I don't think the Cubs go hunting for a corner OF'er unless all our corner OF options are just 100% hot garbage.

That said, 1) I would kill to see Joey Bats on the Cubs, if only for half a season, and 2) I would kill to see him on the Cubs in the playoffs against the Pirates or Cardinals.

CF Fowler

RF Heyward

LF Bautista

1B Rizzo

3B Bryant

2B Zobrist

SS Russell

C Montero/Ross

Holy horsefeathers. Other than catcher, that's practically an 8 team fantasy league lineup.

Not sure Heyward is on too many fantasy teams at the moment.
