Will we miss Greinke?

He pitches Sunday, we miss Miller

Neither is true. Greinke goes Saturday, Miller Sunday.

Grienke is Saturday, Miller is Sunday. We will miss Patrick Corbin.

Good news for Pat Corbin!! Not great news for Shelby Miller....

Lackey enjoyed his first dance party

i already like him a lot more. now go pitch well.

This is gonna an Edmonds situation for me.

The toughest thing is that Lackey just has the most punchable face that I've ever seen. He could be pitching a perfect game in the World Series and while I might love him at that point, I'd still really want to punch him in the face. It's almost like an involuntary reflex. Combine that with his questionable personal life and he's got a bit of an uphill battle to climb although I'm obligated to like him as a Cub.

You have anger issues and should seek treatment.

I think he looks lovely.

holy crap, i always figured him as a mouth breather but that surpassed my expectations

I didn't like the "its just one win and we were partying like it was a playoff series win"

He was great at the Convention though. Kind of a jerk to Lester, I mean really slamming him, but you got the vibe that they have the kind of relationship that could support it.

I'm trying really hard to like him.

A solid performance tonight would go a long way.

I'll like him on the baseball field as long as he pitches well for the Cubs. From what I know about him, he's a turd of a human being, but as long as he doesn't go full Zambrano on the diamond I have no problem rooting for him as a Cub.

I would have loved it if one of them would have been like 'well I/you saw first hand last October when the Cubs donged all over my/your face'

They do kinda party like it's a playoff win after every win (minus the champagne) and it's pretty unusual. He said it was sick right after that.

Yeah, he's right. It is weird. But he also seems cool with it, which is the correct way to view it.

I think I like Lackey now after that short interview. Comes across as a pretty cool guy to me. Go get 'em John!

Does anyone have an idea of what the Cubs will do once Baez is off the DL, probably as soon as Monday?

The 2 main options discussed were Szczur and Ramirez. Both are out of options. If we were going to lose someone, Ramirez makes the most sense as Szczur in a small sample has done enough to stay up, plus the Cubs are carrying an extra arm. But do the Cubs really want to risk losing Ramirez for nothing? Maybe they will work out a trade?

I am also getting slightly nervous that he may just send down someone like Soler. He didn't hit at all in the Spring, didnt look that great in the first series against LA, not a plus on defense (other than maybe his arm), not a plus on the basepaths. You can't ignore his awesomeness in the playoffs, and you definitely can't place too much stock in Spring training and a sample size of 2 regular season games. You also can't risk hurting his trade value by sending him down, so probably not (although Gordo speculated this on the Score this morning). But its possible the Cubs believe that he could use some development and regular ABs.

I imagine they might string it out a few extra days in case someone else gets a knock, but my guess is they DFA Szczur. Even with his hot start he's not going to take away playing time from Soler, so without the DH or another injury there's no path to him doing anything but pinch hitting. Baez can play his positions, and later term Almora can figure into his role if they believe in him. Lowest ceiling, most replaceable, doesn't have a super high floor.

Does Richard have any options left? Maybe he gets sent down to start some games and stay relatively stretched out? Especially if he's used in one of the next 3 starts for Lackey, Hendricks, or Hammel as the "super utility" pitcher earlier in the game to avoid having those guys face a lineup for the 3rd time.

Is this still the case? Last I saw from AZPhil had Baez getting plunked in the head down in EXST and that he hasn't seen the field since.
