538 still has the Cubs as the 19th best World Series champion ever and 2nd best in the last 20 years, with this years Red Sox one spot above. It seems like by their rankings ELO gets a much bigger emphasis than they should as the Cubs are significantly better than this year's Sox in pythagorean record and WAR.

538's obsession with ELO is amazing to me. For baseball it could make sense, if it wasn't so random and dependant on pitching match ups. That they use it for football almost exclusively with 16 game seasons where the results of rosters that no longer exist greatly effect future ELO ratings...gross. Pythag and WAR are a much better indicator of talent levels.
