Was just looking at DRS on Fangraphs...Zobrist has 5 DRS in less innings than Javy at 2B (4 DRS) and Javy is -1 DRS at both SS and 3B. Has he really been that bad in the field this year?

sure, if you call that "bad"

Sorry "bad" relative to expectations considering last year we were laughing about how far in 1st he was in DRS at 2B without enough innings to qualify

never thought it was reasonable to expect him to grade out obscenely good like that again

David is not a fan of relative expectations.

not really but if that's how you want to read those conversations, go nuts

fwiw i was saying all offseason that there was no way baez would come all that close to those defensive numbers again this season

and i think it's weird to complain about bryant basically matching his career numbers to this point. probably underperforming a little bit given the environment now but definitely nothing that crazy considering it's baseball.

and, again, in bryant's case, much like baez, a lot of the value you're seeing missing compared to last year is based on defensive numbers which can be super flukey year to year

In both cases you jumped on "relatively disappointed" to mean "why aren't these players as good or better than they were last season?"

In both cases, regression was expected, but not necessarily to the degree we've seen, hence the relative disappointment.

NUANCE.

he literally asked "has he really been that bad in the field?"

i answered his question and qualified the wording. i didn't jump on horsefeathers.

Since July 1st Willson Contreras is slashing .349/.415/.735/1.150 over his last 28 games with 12 homers and 32 RBI.

Willson a contender for the best of the bunch was unexpected

Dreaming on this guy when he was tearing up Iowa was fun but I was thinking realistically maybe he was a 110 wRC+ type and if he were to become the best offensive Catcher in baseball it would be 5 or so years down the road.

He's stealthily emerged as the biggest creep with this one, and that's with the stiff competition of Lackey looking like he showed up wearing his usual Sunday best and Happ coming the closest to a genuine smile he's shown so far (probably because his "leather" vest is actually made out of skin).

That no sleeves look with just the vest makes me think this isn't the first time Happ has worn a get up like this.

Yeah, like he showed up as is and was, like, "hey, why are you guys all dressed like that?

In a mostly sea of dorks, Javy looks like a damn rock star.

In that he looks like he got kicked out of both Biohazard and Suicidal Tendencies?

I was thinking more like a mini-Slash but that works too. I saw the technique when he was air-guitaring "Bombtrack"....

Someone who can come up with a clever thread title should start the Contreras thread. Kind of shocking he doesn't have one yet (that I can find). He was just named player of the week for the NL.

let's not ruin the one good thing we still have
