Cards are already sitting Grichuk.

Reminder - it's the 3rd game of the season...he's not in need of rest.

Probably just making sure he doesn't break the single season K record.

I'm kind of torn whether I want them to win just so the Pirates aren't undefeated.

I guess the best answer is that we really can't lose either way.

i'd read less than nothing into this- it's likely a manager over-obsessing about matchups; Corey Dickerson sat today after homering in two of his first three games

I'm not saying they're benching him. I AM saying Matheny is probably overreacting to his start and wants to give him a breather or something stupid like that.

The Pirates are better than the Cardinals, so we should probably root for the Cardinals. So the Cardinals have a better chance at getting steamrolled by us should they win a one game playoff.

That is all very logical. But I want that team and fanbase (with a few exceptions) to suffer through years of horrendous teams. I wish no injuries upon their players - just unrelenting failure.

which they can totally do while still winning today. i mean that's perfect. if they're gonna suck that bad, let them beat the pirates for us.

Meanwhile, at Mojo's house...

We do not need to worry about who beats who. We are better than all of them. Non-Cub games are nothing but sound and fury. I pay attention only for schadenfreude and fantasy baseball purposes, and this outlook is correct. Highly suggest it for all.

I love how they so desperately don't want to start Jedd Gyorko. They acquire him to be a bench player, Peralta goes down. They say "Gyorko will start in his place". A few days later they acquire Ruben Tejada and he's the starting SS. Ruben Tejada goes down with an injury, Gyorko becomes the starter. A couple days later they call up a SS who's only had 58 AB's above AA, and they're still starting Gyorko but you just know they wish they didn't have to. I love it.

Now Hrabosky is reminiscing and saying DeWitt's group is the best ownership in baseball.

Then the Cards walk a guy and McLaughlin starts panicking, saying "this is only Game 3, but..."

In over three decades as a fan, I have witnessed a whopping seven sub-.500 seasons from the Cardinals. I might have been blinded by disgust and counted wrong, but that's ridiculous. No fucks should be given about them losing to the Pirates, or anyone else. NONE. Anything else is ridiculous robot-talk.

Basically it's root for the Pirates to lose every game except when they play the Cardinals, and root for the Cardinals to lose every game, period. Very simple.

I hope Theo and Jed hire the guy that just pitched for the Cardinals. They said he's basically Peter Brand in real life. He's a Princeton Economics grad who wrote his senior thesis over predicting baseball injuries.

It's hard to write off the Cardinals because they're essentially the Jason Voorhees of baseball, but unless they get another historic outlier of a performance from their pitching, they could finish at or below .500. They likely wouldn't admit it to the face of a Cubs fan (or themselves), but you can tell smart Cards fans detect the smell of death on this year's team.

Their media sounds like Baghdad Bob right now.

i have no problem with this

i just didnt want us behind the pirates in the standings. but the cards being 0-3 and seeing their fans panic is cool too

its funny, when i started watching baseball the cardinals kinda sucked. then they put together that core that carried them the first half of the 2000s, and pujols carried them that whole decade too. it wasn't until the last 4-5 years that they really started to piss me off with these teams of boring grindy overachievers and the BFIB stuff really taking hold.
