Also, OMG holy horsefeathers that was better than anything in 2002.

Personally I’d take the Mexico win easily. I’d probably take the Portugal win too because it was over a much better opponent and helped set the stage for what came later.

That being said, this was really fun.

Doesn't seem major. Said he thinks he'll be fine in a few days.

If it was 0-0 at halftime, I'd be much more worried. The fact that it was 3-0 makes me buy into the "playing it safe" narrative because the game was pretty much over at that point.

This is also where the bloated World Cup helps. In 2022 we played on the 21st, 25th, and 29th. This year we play on the 12th, 19th and 25th. So a lot more rest time, which helps for recovery.

Friendly reminder that if you're wondering how Jamaica, Costa Rica or Honduras didn't qualify for this World Cup in a year they never had to play the USA or Mexico, the answer is because Haiti beat them in qualifying without playing a home game (and then Jamaica lost in the playoff against DR Congo).

I feel like someone on a 3 day marijuana bender. I don’t know what is happening.

they should walk out to the pitch with the stadium blaring "funkin' lesson" by x-clan.

It's so hard to adjust to wildly different World Cup times every day.  I get it, this is a 3 country World Cup covering maybe a half dozen time zones so it makes sense, but I remember past World Cups having a consistent schedule, like 6am, 8am, 12pm or something (CT) where you could count on waking up and catching the end of the 1st game, watching the 2nd game as you were getting ready for work and the noon game on your lunch break.

Today I was like ok yesterday there was an 11am, 2pm, 5pm and 8pm game.  Who is the 11 am game today?  And then realized there is no game until 2pm.  Yesterday the last game started at 8, today it starts at 11.  Weird....not really a complaint just an observation.

What is strange is that some of these games for the countries playing are in the middle of the night back in their country but they could have easily moved it to the late start time US time to make it more manageable.

Also, why is the US match on at 2pm Central on Friday? Fox probably would prefer it in primetime.

It is Juneteenth, so maybe they were counting on most of the country being either officially or unofficially off.

Yep, I have it off which is super helpful for being able to watch the game

Yep. I’m visiting Norway and the game isn’t on until midnight local time.

(At least the sun doesn’t set until then anyway)

Mbappe with 14 WC goals now. Record is 16. He’s only 27 also. Realistically he’s got at least 4 more matches this WC, plus the 2030 Cup. I would think he’d be on the 2034 team, though France is typically pretty deep. Even with average performances the rest of this tourney and in 2030, he’s going to blow the record out of the water.

Mbappé allowed Senegal only about 4 seconds of hope

That was a blast, what a beast.
