It's hard for me to imagine Payton being a huge financial savings over Mully.  Maybe there is a bit there, but enough to really make a significant difference in the books? If that truly is the motiviation, it might show the station is in more trouble than we know of.

Mully was getting old and was a little stale. I think the morning show started losing the ratings to 1000 after dominating forever and Mitch Rosen felt a change needed to occur.

I have to imagine terrestrial radio everywhere continues dying a slow but inevitable death. Although it will never *completely* die due to live sporting broadcasts. 
 

I have to wonder how much Chicago based sports podcasts eat their lunch, although judging by the Bernstein podcast numbers, not much

Would have been great to have Parkins back, but I’ve heard he makes 7 figures with Fox and that money is not available anymore on terrestrial sports radio in Chicago.

Jarret is really bland. Also, and I know this isn't Jarret's fault, but can we please go one show without numerous Walter mentions either from the people he interviews, his cohost, etc.

Apparently The Score is on Sirius/XM channel 96 as of 9/1.  I'm thinking that's why the Mulligan/Payton swap.  Jarrett Payton is a name more people will recognize outside of Chicago than Mike Mulligan.

During these interviews I swear I forget Payton is even there. It's Haugh and the interviewee going back and forth then a small interjection by Payton and right back to the other two.

Mildly surprised to hear Mully is gone, although from the little bit I’ve heard from him over the past year he sounds ollllllld. Old and tired. Woulda figured he would retire if anything. Some of the segments they have with Biggs are just like… man, there are two guys who just can’t wait to retire. Let em go out to pasture man. 

The Boers and Bernstein, Mike and the Mad Dog, etc. era is definitely over. All those guys were extremely knowledgeable and lived and breathed local sports. They were nerds in the best sense of the word and able to articulate a point in a way to get reaction.  

Now, it's sort of like East Bond and Down sports entertainment that's about the personality or like everyone else pointed out, a tout board for sports betting.

He got $50-100k per event to speak while the event charged $100 to attend with an average attendance of 3,000. He should have known that something was fishy.
