The AL East is a poor man's 2015 NL Central. They have the three best teams in the AL, but the way the bracket is set up, if it remains that way, the 2nd and 3rd place teams would play in the WC round with the winner of that playing the division winner. Which also means one team from the AL Central or West will be in the ALCS.

and now he's having elbow surgery

I don't think it's hyperbole to say to whatever small extent the Reds window was open Green going down slams it shut?

Like their path to the playoffs was "get 15 wins out of Greene/Burns/Elly and have the team be at least decent otherwise."  Now you basically need Elly to have a PCA-sized breakout to get there?  Which to be fair if there's another guy possibly capable of Pete things he's on the short list but that's still a really tall order.

General rant....I get home every morning and watch quick pitch on MLB. In general I like the show because they do fairly comprehensive highlights of every game. But WTF do they think they need a half dressed bimbo be the commentator half the time?

What an incredibly ignorant thing to say

Have you watched it?

Calling a professional sports anchor a “bimbo” is ignorant in any context

Have you watched it? Its not everyday, but my very progressive wife, when this one particular woman is on cringes about her lack of any reason to be on the show than being half dressed.

And my bigger complaint is not about her....its about the audience the MLB Network is chasing

Some weird run differential outliers this year

Tampa Bay is 74-46 with a +62 differential and expected record of 67-53

Detroit is 60-62 with an +87 differential and expected record of 70-50

Man the Raleigh fall-off is striking. 9 fwar and a 160 wRC+ last year to a 70 and probably sub-1 fwar this year. The defense is even down considerably from where it was the prior 4 years.

Im pretty sure this is the biggest fall-off of all-time. Ellsbury had that 9.5/150 season and followed it up with .8/84 but that was in half of a season.

I cant recall any others that were anywhere near these 2.

A lot of speculation that he never fully recovered from the oblique injury.  I'd bet he's been compensating for that all season and a healthy offseason gets him back to good, but he probably never sees last season's heights again.

the fight for the last AL wild card spot is going to be insane. there's never been a full mlb season where a team made the playoffs with a sub-.500 record.
