I don't know what any of you are talking about (I get the Curb reference, just not what Rockies thing it's referring to)

9/10 on the Derwood scale

I mean, someone could have just linked to the story they were talking about I guess

imagine if his name had gotten out last night before it was cleared up and he had to call a press conference to say he was just trying to get a mascots attention for a high five and maybe a picture.

How about an apology from Tony Clark too?

This is what happens when people jump to conclusions

OfficeSpace_038Pyxurz.jpg?zoom=1.25&resize=601%2C401&ssl=1

to appease the Twitter mob.

...so this is twitter's fault?

Of course not. But the mob mentality of social media is represented on Twitter, and those cries for immediate action don't always fall on deaf ears. It is fine to issue a statement that an investigation is taking place and racist behavior won't be tolerated, but it isn't fine to flag something as "abhorrent racial animus" when you don't have all the facts.

So, what happened, specifically, that was upsetting to you?

...you wanted him to say "slurs aren't a big deal" and/or "he was probably just saying "Dinger"? Sorry, I don't understand your frustrations.

Did you miss the part of the story where there wasn't actually a racial slur? Or are you ok with calling someone out for racism where it didn't exist?

I wanted them to not make an official statement claiming racism when they clearly didn't have all the information.

Am I ok with calling "someone" out for racism? Yes. Obviously. Who exactly was the victim here?

While not directly named, there was a fan accused of repeatedly shouting a racist term at a player. There are videos of that fan, and people can figure out who he is. While perhaps a bit odd that he was so intent on getting a mascot's attention, he didn't deserve to be labeled a racist. Again, get the facts straight before issuing public statements.

I'd virtually guarantee he has been identified by internet nuts and I'm sure, even after he was proven innocent, that he's being threatened and harassed.

yeah you can't guarantee that, and it's probably not even true

I don't know if anyone IDed him, but I've definitely seen plenty of people online still today saying they think he was dropping the n-bomb and it's just being "covered up" or whatever.

That said, however, this blew up before anyone with MLB said anything, so pinning it on some kind of vague official statement that didn't ID the guy or show the clip is a stretch. This was a thing BECAUSE of social media; it didn't become a thing on social media because of anything the Rockies or MLB or the Players' Union said.

yeah it isnt like everyone was calmly gathering facts and then tony clark blew it up with his statement that like 19 people saw. there *is* a lesson here about a rush to judgement, but that's a much broader issue.

Willy Adames 2nd in position player fwar since the trade. Yelich-lite transaction yet?

Great work adding '-lite' to this attempt to pat yourself on the back. Gives you the easy out if anyone correctly argues how shortsighted it is to compare these two trades. 'Well of course it's not actually the same, but...'
