Absolutely bizarre. Though were I to bet I would think he’ll reconsider before too long.

Yeah, there aren't many jobs out there that would pay the same bucks.

I know a few south side racists who I expect to be very understanding about this

Kieran Lovegrove, an active pitcher for the Double-A Rocket City Trash Pandas, said he is living with six other teammates in a three-bedroom apartment, sleeping on a twin mattress, with one person sleeping in the kitchen and two others in the living room. Others like Shane Kelso -- who spent part of the 2021 season with the low-A Inland Empire 66ers, another Angels affiliate, before retiring due to the living conditions for players -- said four teammates bunked in a camper van in a trailer park while others lived out of cars.

Just pathetic.

its crazy to me that not one organization sees the difference like $10m a year could make toward player development? Or is it some secret rule not to be the one team that crosses the line and starts taking care of minor leaguers better. i mean if you ever needed proof that baseball owners value making money over winning, here you go

Yeah it is by far the most baffling part of this. Your prospects will develop better and contribute more or be more valuable in trade, and you’d have an efficiency wages advantage with minor league FAs and the like. Would easily pay itself back for less than the price of an okay free agent.

It's the reason not one owner decides "horsefeathers it, if the rest of you are gonna pull this crap, I'm going in" and starts buying free agents left and right. They're very carefully vetted before they're allowed to buy the team to make sure they don't care about anything more than profit maximization.

It reminds me of the Waltons choosing to pay their employees poverty wages despite proof that they'd make more money if they paid their employees enough to be consumers at their own stores.

This Rockies/fan/mascot thing is straight out of Curb. Don’t want to describe it any more because I don’t want to give anything way.

I hadn’t thought about it like that, but that’s so true.

I can totally see a mob descending on Larry and him screaming “No! No! I was yelling at the triceratops!!”
