unrelated to that, it's the 2nd half so now Votto's entered god mode: .518/.625/.796

he had a .535 2nd-half OBP last year

And the Cubs don't see him again till the final series of the season.

EDIT: Wrong, dumbass. There's a series a week before that.

I thought you said he might be broken. :)

I gotta say I couldn't be more pleased that currently the Cards and Mets would be shut out of the playoffs if they started today. Going off the David-metric of who would it suck the most to lose to in the ~40% chance we lose in the opening series, both of them would be the most annoying to me.

I'd imagine a lot of ya'll would hate the Marlins showing up and fluking their way to a series win, but for whatever reason I don't hold as much ill-will towards them (and also 2003-04 was only when I started vaguely starting to watch so my emotional attachment wasn't totally cemented yet). I also think they'd be the most inferior team to be in the playoffs and we'd miss Fernandez until later in the series, so that would be a nice tiny edge. (Though the Cubs showed how important missing the Ace for game 1 was last year)

I was thinking the exact same before. Just don't lose to the Mets or Cards, please.

The Cardinals would be the 2nd wild card if the playoffs started today, thanks to our comeback against the Marlins.

I would hate losing to the Cards this year more than anything in the world. I would probably trade 2 of the Hawks Stanley Cups to prevent this from happening. It wouldnt erase the awesomeness of last September but it would certainly minimize it a bit.

Anyways my new ranking of teams I'd want to see the Cubs play in the NLDS from most want to to least. This factors in chance of winning and how much I don't want to see us lose to them. Only including teams within 3 games of a playoff spot today.

1. Rockies

2. Marlins

3. Pirates

4. Dodgers (w or w/o Kershaw same spot)

5. Nationals

6. Mets

7. Giants

8. Cardinals

I, also, had no idea the Rockies were anywhere near a playoff spot. Go Rockies!

I don't feel anything towards the Giants but I am feeling like Even Year [expletive] is some sort of unstoppable black magic and want to everywhere away from it

That is why I have them so low but also because facing Madbum/Cueto 3 times in a 5 game series scares me. Obviously DeGrom/Syndergaard 3 times does too but the Giants have a better offense to go with the starters.

I know we joke about robot umps all the time, but isn't a home plate umpire's job something that tech like Google Glass makes a ton of sense for? Have a league defined strike zone superimposed via VR into the ump's line of sight for easier and more consistent calls?

Is there transparency about how the umps are graded? Do they use PitchFX to grade themselves?

Wouldn't it be easier to just use PitchFX to relay the info to Glass?

I have now decided I no longer what Robot Umps, I want Cyborg Umps

Yankees/ARod press conference tomorrow. He's either retiring or he's getting DFAd

I'd find it hard to believe he'd outright retire with the money he's owed yet. It's gotta be a buyout/DFA

Texas is 64-47 with a +2 run differential and they're outperforming their pythag by 8 games.

Washington is only 1.5 games better than Texas in the standings but is 15.5 better by pythag.
