Leigh isn't imminently Rule 5 eligible(though he turns 25 by opening day so the clock is ticking in that sense), so that says something about their view of him relative to options at Tennessee, though I guess most of those current options are guys nominally starting still(Jensen, Thompson).

I wonder if there's a corresponding MLB promotion coming. Espinoza is the most obvious demotion candidate I can see, though you never know who might need an IL stint too.

Yeah it's definitely a bit weird to have both Leiter and Espinoza in the pen right now. I imagine one gets demoted soon for a more standard one inning reliever.

Relatedly, it looks like Manny Rodriguez is close too:

Assuming tonight goes well, Miley up to backfill for a Thompson trip to the phantom IL? And then Espinoza demoted, backfilled by one of Sanders/Estrada? Kervin Castro probably gone in two weeks in favor of one of the convalescing Manny and Adbert?

Are we convinced Manny is actually healthy? That report of his velocity being almost 5 mph down is concerning.

That would be worrisome, but also he's 26 and has 40 IP above A ball with 25 BB, and might be out of options next year(I can never be certain). He's basically another Espinoza in my mind, which is to say I'm not putting much weight on his performance one way or the other.

No. But we'll see. It might not be unusual if a guy isn't going all-out during a rehab inning in Mesa?

Handy reference for options remaining:

Didn’t realize 27th man, Nicholas Padilla, was so good at avoiding HRs…from MLBTR:

.. he’s yet to allow a home run on the year. Through 232 career minor league innings, he’s yielded just nine home runs (0.35 HR/9).

4/125 HR/IP Danis Correa.

9/232 Padilla

35/288 Cam Sanders. (3/15 since relief conversion
