oh god we're retaining helton

Well played by Mora.

1. Clemson unless they lose.

2. Bama unless they lose.

3. Oklahoma for sure.

4. Winner of big ten championship is in for sure.

So say UNC beats Clemson handily, do you think they jump into the top 4 over Stanford?

They shouldn't. Stanford played a grueling schedule this year while UNC was beating 2 FCS teams and losing to horrendous South Carolina. Ohio State would have a better chance than UNC.

Conference USA Championship Game (12 pm, ESPN2)

Southern Miss at Western Kentucky

Southern Miss's first year coach, Todd Monken, deserves a shot at a coaching vacancy. They were 4-36 the previous 3 seasons before him and now they are 9-3 and playing in a championship game. Hell of a job he has done in a single year.

Meh, ESPN's strength of record says it was harder for UNC to go 11-1 vs. its schedule than it was for Stanford to go 10-2 vs. its schedule. Granted, they are ranked 11 and 12 in the metric, so they are basically equal right now, but once you add in the conference championships, you'd probably see a bigger difference.

Sagarin has Stanford at 16 and UNC at 63. Football Outsiders has Stanford 31, UNC 79. Stanford lost to teams ranked in the top-15, UNC lost to a 3-9 team. UNC hasn't even played a team that's currently receiving votes in either poll. Stanford beat No. 9, No. 24 and two teams receiving votes. The top team UNC played according to Sagarin was No. 34 Pitt. Stanford played 7 teams in the top-33.

Well yes, but the whole scenario hinges on if UNC beats the consensus #1 in Clemson so some of that would obviously change. I mean I hate UNC and hope they lose so I'm happy to hear arguments why they shouldn't get in even if they do win. And I'm not really advocating they should, either. In fact, the bitching and moaning around here would be glorious in that case.

I could see Trestman succeeding a bit in college. He's a gimmick coach who's personality does not mesh with pros.

Yeah his style might be ok, but I cannot see him being a particularly effective recruiter (unless the system has immediate results and is attractive to recruits), or a leader of men given what we heard from the Bears locker room at the end of last season. Yes pros have a different mindset than college players but I mean how can you respect a coach that stood by as one of his players berated an assistant in front of everyone, and then the next day named him a captain?

He could not handle professionals with big contracts. The children who participate in college football are different. He's a complete [expletive] artist too, which will help in recruiting. Look at the all the other Dbags in the business.

You probably need to be a better leader in college than the NFL. NFL players are probably generally self motivated. College you have a huge mix of personality. Trestman would be an unmitigated disaster at Mizzou. To go from Pinkels consistently solid and dignified program to trestman would be a fall of Paul Hackett proportion. He would have them as a winless conference team within a season.

I could not imagine a group of adults coming together, with a job as attractive as Mizzou and even entertain the idea of hiring Trestman to fill that role.

That's because they didn't.

Why do people always overrate Stanford. Their schedule was tough but they lost two games. If UNC was 1 loss with the win against Clemson then they should get in over any two loss team. Ohio State should get in over Stanford also. When you lose to northwestern and then another team you do not get an opportunity to play for a national title.

If UNC beats Clemson they would have arguably the best win in the 2015 fbs season with the longest active winning streak.

I don't care about winning streaks. The entire season matters, like if a team lost to a terrible South Carolina team. And I don't think it would be arguable that UNC has the best win of the season, when Clemson would undoubtedly drop below Oklahoma and UNC. Turns out best win of the season goes to South Carolina or Texas.

The more I've thought about it, I think I'm in favor of Clemson keeping its spot if they lose a close game to UNC.

True the gamecocks had an awful season. But they did just play Clemson relatively commensurate with NDs performance vs Clemson. Id say that they might line up against northwestern in a 3pt or less spread if they played today. Losing to them week 1 should be looked at as a bad but not crippling loss. And since then they have mowed through the ACC.

I'm willing to say that Clemson isn't that good but to the undefeated power 5 team goes the spoils.

I'm just pissed that people want Stanford to be able to factor into this thing. Seems like every year a pac team sticks high in the rankings despite disappointing.
