I am just not that interested in Price. I'd much prefer go the Zimmermann+Span+O'day route over the Price+Austin Jackson route

I don't see span as much more attractive than Jackson, so if this were somehow the choice, I'd take the latter.

I think there's a fairly solid chance Price would provide more WAR than those 3 guys combined next year. I'd say Jackson being added would definitely do it.

That said, if we're restricted to the 130ish area(no idea), then taking a more well rounded approach of some sort makes sense to me, even if I'd absolutely LOVE Price for the Cubs.

I really don't have much faith in Zimmermann, so I'd got Heyward.

The fact that Zimmerman had his worst year (in a contract year) in awhile right around the the exact time when some people think the life expectancy of a Tommy John arm expires scares the hell out of me.

Even taking the pitchers out of it, I'd rather have Jackson than Span and his old man hips. Lots of core injuries with him lately, and I'd prefer to stay away.

I love Tim Corbin (Vandy baseball coach) just creeping in the back with a kid.

Eh, kind of? He ran with Mendy being in the Shark deal 2 years ago. But he's broken things since(including being the first to say there was a Cubs/Rangers trade a few days ago) and is basically as reliable as most at this point. If you follow ALL the rumor guys, you should probably follow him too.

Can Toronto even squeeze out the money for him? Aren't they pretty limited this winter, with so many big deals? Although ... add in a thin system, maybe they decide to go all-out. Still, I have my doubts that they can even squeeze out a competitive bid.

I'm guessing the Price market is pretty much what people will expect - Dodgers, Giants, Cubs, Red Sox, with maybe a couple darkhorses out there (Diamondbacks? Nationals?) Even though teams have money, there still aren't enough teams that can realistically jump into what is expected to land Price.

The essential dynamics, though, remain unchanged -- the teams with the most interest in Price, in no particular order, are the Cubs, Cardinals, Dodgers, Giants and Red Sox, according to major-league sources.

But Price, 30, values comfort even more than most players. He had that in Tampa Bay. He eventually found it in Detroit. And he felt it almost immediately in Toronto.

The Red Sox, then, might be the toughest sell for Price, given the complexities of his past relationships with their fan base and biggest star, David Ortiz. By contrast, the Cubs and Giants could hold particular appeal.

The Cubs project a fun vibe with their youthful roster and spirited manager, Price's old skipper in Tampa Bay, Joe Maddon. The Giants, under manager Bruce Bochy, long have had one of the strongest clubhouse cultures in the game.

As I wrote recently, "Price probably does not consider the Red Sox his first choice. But if the Sox outbid the Cubs by say, $30 million, hello Boston."
