Series is over barring some 2004 Red Sox like comeback. Margin for error has shriveled with a very young team. Oh well maybe we can someday win the World Series, that would be neat.

The Mets are going to win the series barring a comeback. I'm going to need you to show your work on that one.

I'm tired of this [expletive]. We still got this and it starts in wrigley and ends in mets fans crying in their beers in New York.

Let's all look on the bright side. The mets are no strangers to falling apart and choking. This series has only just begun. It's going to be a dog fight.

i'd still have some confidence if we didn't just use our 2 good pitchers. hendricks is alright or whatever, but it was pretty important to win one of the 2 in new york.

we're more than capable of getting hot and winning this thing. but there's pretty much no margin for error now, if we drop one at wrigley i'm not sure we can take 2 in a row at citi field.

Looks like he's flirted with an average of 93 mph a bunch this year: http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.aspx?playerid=4153&position=P&pitch=SI

Between the cold, this being the first time he wasn't on extra rest in a while, and his repertoire being liable to measurement issues(he basically throws fastballs/sliders from 90-95 all the time), I wouldn't worry too much about that single data point.

He wasn't on extra rest? I thought he very specifically was given extra rest.

No that's my bad, I was in a rush and misremembered. That's the weakest of the 3 reasons though, so the overall point remains.

The scary thing about this game was that aside from that first inning (and still not retaining his best control) Arrieta was good. You just can't win on 1 run unless you have God Mode Arrieta.

Jake gave up a HR that Statcast claimed was just this side of impossible given the exit velocity for half his runs. He was fine. We're probably not getting God mode Arrieta if we get to Game 6, but the hand-wringing over him is probably a bit overblown right now.

Murphy is just in a ridiculous hot streak right now. Just don't pitch him low and inside and they'll be fine. That HR last night was almost miraculous.

Yeah, there were 5 of us watching at my place and when he did that everyone just kind of looked at each other and collectively shrugged their shoulders. It wasn't even really a bad pitch and he still just kind of eased it up and out down the line.

This is true but its not like he was God Mode sharp and just had one bad luck HR. He had 97 pitches through 5 innings. He didnt walk a lot of batters but his control wasnt great at all and was consistently getting behind hitters. That said, he didnt give up a lot of hard contact other than Wright's double, and after Murphy's fluke HR he went 5IP, 1H, 1ER and the 1 hit was an IF single

Yeah, that's more or less what I meant. God mode Jake is likely gone, but it's not like he was getting crushed last night either. Aside from the bad luck homer he was very good, just not invincible.

i mean the only argument for god-mode jake being gone is inning count or whatever, which makes sense, but just 14 innings ago he was still unhittable, so i dont buy it.

My scientific theory is that his beard went from a well-maintained forest of lusciousness to an unkempt, disgusting jungle. It was looking pretty wild on Sunday; keep that [expletive] TIGHT, Jake. Edited by Sammy Sofa

My argument for God mode Jake being gone is that what he did for 3 months was historically unprecedented. Very good Jake of most recent vintage can still help us win a title.

Well, part of the God Mode was that he was being fortunate for a long time that nothing like that happened to him. It happens to everyone sometimes, and it's not like he was striking out 15 per 9 or something to justify his 0.XX ERA.
