Current teams eliminated:

- NL Wild Card: Philadelphia has been eliminated

- NL Central: Cincinnati and Milwaukee have been eliminated

Cubs up to a 1.6% chance of winning the division. 98.6% chance of making the playoffs.

Man how much more do we have to do to get to 99.9%?

Fangraphs remains convinced that Washington is a .620 winning percentage ball club. Fangraphs isn't factoring Matt Williams into their calculations.

EDIT: Fangraphs redid their calculations again. 98.8% to make the playoffs and 2.3% to win the division.

Whether we take the division or not this year, the Cards are [expletive] quaking. We are going to be so [expletive] good.(we may already be too) But this division and all of baseball is going to be bowing down to us very quickly.

Taking the division is going to shatter the Cardinals and TBFIB. It's going to be decadent.

it would be our version of what the red sox did to the yankees

I've got confidence Kyle is excited for our future as well as just this season.

Cardinals announcers are saying Wainwright will be back this year.

Those must be some really, really good super secret 'roids they've got. There's no way he should be back this year. I hope he tears the damn thing again if he does come back. And that's not something I'm prone to say seriously.

I hope he comes back perfectly healthy, but sucks rocks. Then I hope they're too wimpy to take him out of the rotation because of his history. Then I hope he keeps sucking hard.

That would work too. But I'd prefer him out of commission for even longer considering he's the crown prince of the holier than thou a-hole BFIB brigade.

I'm pretty sure that if they actually overtook the Cardinals and then somehow managed to NOT win the WS I'd give up on baseball. They take the division and I am betting it ALL.

That's what would make him having an era of 7.31 even better, though.

Them overtaking the Cardinals and then bombing out in the divisional crapshoot like the 2008 Cubs would be an enormous [expletive] kick in the nads for sure

But it's infinitesimally unlikely such a thing could happen and we still have an enormously bright future so you'd have six months to get over it

I think this team is so young and confident that they aren't going to feel the pressure of the playoffs, even if the fans at Wrigley went into their usual 'panic at the first sign of danger' mode.

On the morning of July 30, going into a 4 game set against the Giants, the Cubs were 53-47, 2.5 games behind the 56-45 Giants for the second wild card.

Since then, the Cubs have gone 26-10 while the Giants have gone 15-22.

Maybe I'm missing what you meant but the Giants series didn't start until August 6th. We won on the 29th too (Lester 14 K game I was at), so since that ugly Beeler start vs. the Rockies (that I was also at unfortunately) to drop to 52-47, it's 27-10.

BREWERS was the first four gamer. They were 2.5 games behind the Giants going into the Brewers series.
