If the Cubs win this game, they'll have a greater chance of winning the division than they will of not making the playoffs at all.

Am I a mook for not being enthralled at the prospect of a home wild card game given the sphincter tightness of our last few playoff home games which were admittedly a long, long time ago

Hey, the first playoff game at home is going to be insanely stressful until they actually win another one of the damn things. At least with the one-game playoff it's over quick if they lose as opposed to slow, statistically (almost) inevitable death if they lose the first game at home in a 5 game series. Win it and not only have they finally won a playoff again again, but one that moves them along. It exorcises a [expletive] ton of demons and starts the stampede.

Don't mean to [expletive] on the parade but assuming a win in this one, if the Cardinals go 12-13; which is very unlikely given their pace, and finish 99-63, the Cubs would need to go 20-6 just to force a one game playoff for the division. And then even if this all happens, you have the Pirates ahead of you. I think focusing on the Pirates and getting the home field for that Wild Card game is way more realistic at this point.

good god do you post anything else? what the hell?

seriously, why the [expletive] do you care what people are focusing on and why do you think it matters?

Go sit on a landmine.

I must admit I thought it was just a running joke that he was a Cardinals fan.

Until now.

I think if we're imagining a scenario that the Cubs win the division it would have to involved the Cardinals playing worse than 12-13, we're talking full on collapse play. 8-17 or something.

Obv that's why it's unrealistic, but on the fringes of possibility.

Plus Kris Bryant hits 495-foot homers at home and has struggled overall on the road his first season. I'll take home Kris Bryant even if it makes some Cubs fans nervous being at home.

Imagining us winning the division mainly involves us winning 5 of 6 or all 6 that we play against them. Then, it's a possibility.

IF ?

Sure, technically the game isn't over yet so the odds aren't calculated yet.

CUBS are 26-0 (1.000) when they lead by 2 runs or more at the end of the 6th inning.... 52-57 (.477) when they don't

Technically, my ass. This game is over !!

Go CUBS !!

If the Cardinals play .500 for all their remaining non-Cubs games, they'll have won 97 games, not counting the 5 remaining against the Cubs.

The Cubs have played at a .653 pace since the all-star break. If they continue that pace for their remaining non-Cardinal games, they'll have won 93 games. Not including the 5 remaining against the Cardinals.

I think you can fill in the blanks here.

Win the play in game and I like our chances in a five game series against these guys.

I don't think you filled in the right blanks there.
