Cubs will be 7.5 back of the division and 4.5 back of the WC lead at the end of this game with 26 more games to play

Still obscenely difficult and unlikely but...

What? We'll be 2 back of the Pirates.

You're right I misread the numbers

Home playoff game will be nice

I kind of think Starlin is back, offensively. There are going to be multiple good players not in the lineup when Schwarber returns. That's a very new and good problem for the Cubs.

Two of Castro, Baez, Jackson, or Coghlan will be sitting most games. And that's not even including Soler potentially or the GAWD, LaStella.

Don't mean to [expletive] on the parade but assuming a win in this one, if the Cardinals go 12-13; which is very unlikely given their pace, and finish 99-63, the Cubs would need to go 20-6 just to force a one game playoff for the division. And then even if this all happens, you have the Pirates ahead of you. I think focusing on the Pirates and getting the home field for that Wild Card game is way more realistic at this point.

Am I a mook for not being enthralled at the prospect of a home wild card game given the sphincter tightness of our last few playoff home games which were admittedly a long, long time ago

Nah, I completely agree with you. However, TT brought up a good point about the stupid PNC dimensions. I could see Maddon being afraid to have Schwarber play LF in that park in the WC game.
