Well that sucks....Votto and poor starting pitching basically won this series for the Reds.

It's ok to lose series, even ones at home against bad teams. My only major concern is starters 3-5.

Russell and Baez swinging at ball fours really stinks. Especially Russell, since he was swinging for the fences and his run meant nothing. He really needs to tone down his two strike approach (and I'm sure he will, he's just a kid).

today was textbook a lot of shitty sequencing

oh well

Reds haven't won a series since July. That's bad.

It was bound to happen. Even bad teams win series. A couple of pitches go differently (and no Castro errors) and we might have swept the series.

Basically what I'm saying is that it sucks to lose the series against a team thats been terrible, but there isn't anything I saw that changes my long term outlook. The biggest issue is that the back of our rotation sucks and we don't really have any options to try to fix it. It almost certainly won't keep us out of the playoffs, but in a 5 game LDS, you will probably have at least 2 games started by the back end of the rotation.

Wed - Arrieta (WC)

Friday - Lester (normal rest)

Saturday - Hammel or Hendricks (normal rest)

Monday - Arrieta (+1 day rest)

Tuesday - Whoever doesn't start between Hammel or Hendricks in Game 2

Thursday - Lester (+1 day rest)

Well that sucked..As long as SF loses I wont be as mad. Just keep them that safe distance back in the WC. PIT losing also would be okay. Don't even care what STL is doing at this point since we wont catch them.

Time to forget this loss with a few Firestone beers. Fred told me to go ahead and start Friday's game thread as it seems we're skipping sneaky since he's MIA. I'll look to start it either later tonight when I'm nice and drunk or tomorrow morning.

I want to add that series was really annoying to watch. One reason I believe is that the only inning the entire series where the Cubs began the home half of the inning with the lead was the bottom of the 8th last night. Pretty much always felt like we were coming from behind and then when we did tie it or take the lead the Reds almost always took it right back.

7 times in this series the Cubs tied a game they were trailing or took a lead. In 6 of those occasions, the Reds took the lead in the next half inning. The only time they did was after Schwarbers HR
