9/2 - Reds (Iglesias) @ Cubs (Hammel) 1:20 CSN

Reds haven't won a series since July. That's bad.

 

It was bound to happen. Even bad teams win series. A couple of pitches go differently (and no Castro errors) and we might have swept the series.

 

Basically what I'm saying is that it sucks to lose the series against a team thats been terrible, but there isn't anything I saw that changes my long term outlook. The biggest issue is that the back of our rotation sucks and we don't really have any options to try to fix it. It almost certainly won't keep us out of the playoffs, but in a 5 game LDS, you will probably have at least 2 games started by the back end of the rotation.

 

Wed - Arrieta (WC)

Friday - Lester (normal rest)

Saturday - Hammel or Hendricks (normal rest)

Monday - Arrieta (+1 day rest)

Tuesday - Whoever doesn't start between Hammel or Hendricks in Game 2

Thursday - Lester (+1 day rest)

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Lester go in that hypothetical Tuesday slot. If we were down 2-1 it'd be damn near a certainty.

I'm not sure that the thought of Hammel/Hendricks vs. Syndergaard/Colon or Latos/Anderson strikes fear into my heart. The Cardinals, on the other hand..
