Cubs are now 17 over .500. If they went 25-24 in their remaining 49 games, they would finish with 90 wins.

[expletive], With how things are going now, I really wish we could have got a high impact starter to slot behind Lester and Arrieta at the deadline.

Makes less sense to lament it now that our playoff odds have basically doubled since the trade deadline.

I want to live in a world where Epstein was so magically prescient that he knew the Cubs were going to go on the greatest 2.5-week run of our lifetime and not need any help at the deadline.

We already have one in Hammel.

:good:

Hammel is good don't get me wrong..Would love to have another guy a little better than him for the playoffs. I guess I just was mehh on only getting Dan Haren then, but things have changed now since then and were destorying teams...I get it though..Just wait for the FA class next year to get a guy like Price.

Sox are hot too now, they are one of the best of the bads teams in the league.. They have been winning 7 straight losing 7 straight all year long.

I was responding to a post that says he regrets the deadline given what has happened since. Hindsight was a given.

While they've won 3 in a row heading into today, they're also 4-6 in their last ten. They are not hot.

A move was needed to have helped us secure a playoff berth. We probably don't need that that much anymore. The playoffs are a crapshoot and Hammel certainly is far from bad enough to be worth worrying about as the 3rd guy in a playoff series. I could see wanting to replace Dan Haren if he were the 3rd starter for a playoff team, but not Hammel.

I was thinking about the 12-game win streak in 2001, and I checked and we won 3 in a row after it snapped to go 15-1. That's the only time I can remember ever doing anything like this.

I want to pull an 02 A's (was that the year?)

I was only being partially sarcastic. A small part of me really does want to believe that Epstein thought this team was gonna go nuts in the second half and didn't need the help, and that he believed it for good reasons.

I think he probably did expect a good second half. Obviously nobody expects this because it's bananas.

After 113 games:

2015: 65-48

2008: 67-46

2008 team went on an 18-4 run after the 113th game so we will have to keep going at this pace to catch them.
