It's never been that way, Kat. They went from a single WC to the current format.

people can make a case for home field not meaning much in the wild card game, but I'd prefer just to get in 1st for the WC and stay there for the rest of the season (of course with the hope for the Cardinals to start dropping games left and right to make the division hopeful also)
