I was curious as to how Russell was grading out at SS so far based on the metrics.

So far, UZR/150 of 6.0. Among qualified MLB SS, that would rank 7th, just ahead of Gregorius and behind Hechavarria, Ahmed, Hardy, Simmons, Alcides Escobar, and Crawford.

For reference, he was at 12.8 at 2B, first by a wide margin.

Oh, and just to remind us that things get silly at these sample sizes, Coghlan has a UZR/150 of 27.8 in his 52 innings at 2B.

Funny, I just did the same thing and posted that Coghlan nugget in another thread. I swear there is nothing he could do to displease the UZR gods this year.

I've posted before in this thread, but it's been so much fun watching him improve so rapidly.

[kyle] As a 21 year old SS, Russell has a 90 wRc. As a 20 year old SS, Castro had a 99 wRC. [/kyle]

I'm pretty bullish on Russell. He's the one guy who is legitimately at an age where lots of improvement is reasonable to assume.

At this point? Yes. Not because of talent-level, but who knows what they do in the offseason. If they, say, bring Fowler back then I doubt it.

Is it bold to say that he'll be leading off next year?

I'd say its possible, depending on whether Fowler is back. But with Joe, something like that could happen even if he IS back.

MlB Radio had a segment on Russell batting 9th yesterday before the no-hotter. The guy doing the talking from SABR and had some really good things to say about Addison. For one, he said that batting him 9th really doesn't protect him. He doesn't get the benefit most NL hitters get by facing a pitcher a 3rd time through the order. Instead, he gets 1 or 2 ABs then it's facing very good (compared to most years in baseball history) right handed relievers. The guy argued that Russell's numbers would be noticeably better if he were in a different place in the lineup.

Russell's UZR/150 is now at 12.4 in 227.2 innings at short.

Was there a reason why Russell was pulled for Aaron Miles last night? I was following half the game via radio, and he was in. By the time I got in and turned on WGN, he wasn't. I'm not finding anything injury related on Twitter, so that's good.
