I think I'd rather put Russell in CF if I felt like I needed to make room for Baez than trade him for a pitcher. That wouldn't be an ideal plan but it would make more sense. Or perhaps it wouldn't make less sense.

I think the move for that particular situation would be to swap who you have there. Russel at SS and Baez in CF. Baez said he would be open to a move to the OF and started taking some fly balls in Iowa before he was called up this past time.

I base that mostly on body type and perceived athleticism. I believe Russell is a better athlete. I think if Baez was capable of playing CF they would have already tried him their at Iowa.

I disagree. I think Baez is the more explosive athlete by a little bit & Russell is a,bit smoother.

Ive been saying Baez as a darkhorse future CF all season now. The reason he hasnt been moved off is because SS was still very much up for grabs all year from him. You dont move a capable SS off SS till you absolutely have to. & any position he was goin to play at the MLB level this year was pretty much goin to be infield.

Not to mention he missed a good chunk of time this year with his sister passing away & then breaking his finger later in the year. Im sure Cubs have at least contemplated what Baez in the OF would look like at some point but after the two extended times of missed playing time this year the obvious focus was on his bat, bat, & bat getting refined & comfortable in a defense spot that he would be helping the MLB roster with this year.

Not suggesting that moving either to CF is worth exploring. That being said, I think Russell would have a better chance of becoming a good CF than Baez. Baez is capable of playing shortstop, so I'm 100% positive he is more than capable of playing center field. Why in the world would we move him to center field just because he could handle it? I'm sure Torres could handle it, too, but it would make no sense to move him there, either.

Huh?

If he could handle it and his bat proves to be what we hope it is, it absolutely would make sense to move him there. We have an opening there and we don't have one at SS. And it's not like CF isn't a premium position in its own right.

I read his post to mean that the Cubs don't think Javy can handle center field since they never put him there in Iowa.

Honestly, I had forgotten how much time he missed because of the injury. Obviously, they'd have good reason to keep him at SS and that would make it easier to get his swing straightened out.

Ah, I see. My bad.

Will miss the NLCS with a "moderate" strain

I'm glad Baez got that dong against the Cardinals. Should give him some confidence.

I know this isn't a new idea, but I'm surprised no one mentioned the Baez to 3B and Bryant to CF idea in this recent conversation.

I don't think management is ready to give up on 3B for Bryant, but I think he is more than capable of playing center and I think it should be a serious consideration.

I could definitely see Javy taking over 3rd.

I'm not opposed to KB in CF next year on its own. But I definitely don't think I'd want him there if he's flanked by Schwarber/Soler. I just can't see that being solid enough altogether. How often did Schwarber/Soler play together in the OF? I can't imagine it happened THAT often. I guess we could make it work with a very solid defensive replacement/4th OF, like Jackson?

On his own, how do we compare KB to Dexter in CF? If we're confident he can be that level(or better), then I guess I'd be OK with it?

Grabbing Heyward, trading Soler for pitching, makes a bit of sense, in a scenario like this. It'd enable all of Addy/ Javy/ Starlin to start....

I think I'd just as soon just keep Dex and add FA pitching though. Keep all 3 of the MI guys and find time for everyone.

So what's a realistic slash line for 2016? Unless Russell cuts down on his Strikeouts I don't see him hitting for a high Average. And during only two months of the season did he show any power. 260/320/400 would be my guess.

Russell said he wanted to steal more, so getting around a dozen Stolen Bases would be nice. Also I'm curious to see what the typical Russell supporter, which seems like practically the entire board, sees as his peak OPS. Considering that his value has been deemed only a notch or so below Bryant's I would think a lot of people are expecting OPS' in his prime of around 800.

That's about fair for a realistic semi-optimistic slash line for him this year. Last year he hit .259/.318/.427 in teh second half (101 wRC+ .320 wOBA) If he can do that, with his defense, that'll be a really valuable player.

I'd like to see him make some strides at the big league level before I really try to pin down his peak, because with the talk projecting him as a Barry Larkin type talent, he obviously didn't get there in his first year, but for his age and experience level, he did enough (and made enough progress in season) for me to believe that's still within the realm of possibility.

hard to compare ML numbers as Larkin didn't make the bigs until his age 22 season and wasn't a fixture until his age 24 season. Russell was 21 last year!

Of course I'm being obtuse, but lets not forget how young he is. Larkinesque is a tall order. Looking at his BR page. those K%'s ... =P~

Also, I never noticed how fragile he was. lets hope thats not the case with Russel!

If there was still any doubt, Addi does in fact have Irish twins

ftfy

irish twins are two kids born to the same mother pretty much back to back, so like 9-12 months apart. this is two babies like 3 or 4 months apart from different moms.

If there was still any doubt, Addi does in fact have two different non-twin infants that appear to be around the same age.
