man, why is Brett Taylor such a gomer? his cringey clickbait headlines preclude me from ever wanting to wade into his website anymore; i'm just not ever mentally prepared to suffer through his fangirling creepiness

"watching this EPIC Addison Russell fielding supercut gave me ALL OF THE FEELS. just, whoa. #slickD"

it's been said before but he's clearly angling for a gig at vineline

Meh - there's a market for all kinds of coverage. If Brett wants to serve the fanboy market (or is simply a fanboy himself), more power to him.

lmao. i would hate him if he wasn't baiting me to things i'm actually interested in

Russell's UZR/150 at short is now 16.4, which is second in MLB for players with as many innings as Russell's 323 at short. He's also at 4 DRS, which would rank 4th in MLB on a per-inning basis.

He wasn't supposed to be nearly this good defensively, was he?

I wouldn't go that far.

He was supposed to be very good, albeit with some flaws (his arm is apparently one of them). But a lot of prospects have that said about them and don't end up being that good (Kyle likes to bring this up a lot). You might be remembering him being questioned on that account.

But for the most part I'd say the expectations of him/reports defensively were overall very positive.

I wouldn't call his arm a flaw, but I definitely wouldn't say it's a strength. Which makes his elite awesomeness even that much more absurd.

Anthony Rizzo climbed the tarp and YOU WON'T BELIEVE what happened next!

At the end of the day, there clearly is a market for it and he loves doing it, so it's all good. And I feel like he presents fairly advanced things in a simple way to meatballs, so he's fighting the good fight.

The headlines are occasionally hokey, but I don't really get the clickbait angle. I've never read one of Brett's articles and thought afterward that the headline was misleading or unnecessarily vague.

Yeah I agree. Some of the stuff definitely has a "fluff" feel and the #sparkle stuff is over-the-top (though I haven't seen to much of those types of posts recently). It's generally good info, just from a bit of a "fanboy" viewpoint. I guess I can tune-out the slightly annoying stuff enough to enjoy a good bit of his content.

OTOH, we probably have a dozen posters who are more qualified than the Luke guy to cover his minor leagues (namely TT, davell, toonster, etc.)

I always thought Brett did an outstanding job with the renovations and legal battles.

This. He's a very smart guy, and he knows what kind of coverage his readers want.

I've known Brett for well over a decade in coming from the same message board community. (Cubstalk to it turning into ITI, to when we formed SOI) I'll defend him for the most part and think he's done an excellent job of getting pretty decent info out there. Is it a bit homerish? Sure. But that's part of the charm for me at least. Of the blogs out there for teams thru out the MLB world, I think he's got one of the best. The legal stuff and the debt structure stuff being among the best work he's done, which has trumped the beat guys rather easily in those departments.

That said, if it's not him writing, I recognize immediately and just stop reading. As for his minor league guy, I'd take TT, Raisin, Toonster, and others over Luke in a heartbeat. He;s more of a Sickels(stat analyzer) type and we've got guys here that present that kind of info(sneaky,TT, Kyle, Duke, among them) that do it in a much better and easier to read form.

But again, to take his site to where it is now, Brett has done an excellent job as far as I'm concerned. My guess is he eventually gets Muskat's job.

We've got ourselves a rebel.

I'm guessing you were referencing bleachernation and not BR though.

Jeff Sullivan is by far my favorite Fangraphs guy. I'm not even sure there's another one(I don't count Kiley McDaniel, who is awesome for prospects) that I actually consider a must-read. It seems like all the major sites are in a bit of a downturn, in my opinion.

If you follow enough people on Twitter you pretty much won't miss a thing.

why would a a baseball fan purposefully not read fangraphs?

Well I use it as a reference for stats, just don't read the articles.

Sure. I don't read them so I wouldn't know.

It's not rebellion, it's laziness, mostly. If there is something interesting written on one of those sites, it will make its way here pretty quickly, so I just catch it second hand on NSBB instead of first hand on the other sites

This is going to make davell's head explode, but I actually really like Matthew Trueblood's stuff. Totally get why you'd want to punch him in the face though and he can definitely come off as douchy/condescending.
