So it doesn't matter if it hits the glove, that seems like a future loophole. Just whack any ball in the gap there to prevent a triple or a run scoring from first.

Intentionally whacking a ball out of play and deflecting a ball out of play are handled different in other rules, so I don't see why they couldn't be here.

I'm not talking about winding up and golfing a ball 15 feet to the vines.

what are you talking about? Intentionally tapping it just right so that you know it will stick (rather than just using that glove to catch the ball?)

So what, in the one time in a thousand that the ball is in the gap and you'd be better off if it got stuck and the outfielder is *right there*, he just casually flicks it with his glove and deftly gets it stuck in the ivy?

That seems ... implausible.

I'm out. Going to have an aneurysm if they lose this game because the umpire is a moron who will without a doubt not be held liable in any way shape or form.

Bryant made contact at his last AB, though, right? And he sounds like he's playing solid at 3B. If he settles down, good things will happen.

Fowler, OTOH, gives me little heart attacks.

Regardless of not calling the Schlitter K pitch a strike and getting out of that inning, that didn't change the fact that Schlitter served up a [expletive] meatball and still sucks as a pitcher and shouldn't even be on this roster.

Well, we got our runs on Padres gifts and a series of seeing-eye hits while the Padres have been blasting near-dongers at a Szczur-ian rate.

Pitchers are largely unsuccessful as a species when forced to get 4 strikes to get an out.

Perhaps Schlitter should be clean shaven. Call it a reverse Samson effect: he'd maybe turn into a good pitcher.

Why are LenBob not concerned with the fact that it hit off the outfielder's glove first, and THAT'S what needs clarification? Not the ivy rule itself...

Because it doesn't need clarification. It's irrelevant.

You do know that Bob isn't here anymore, right?
