How can we arrange it so that Schlitter never faces a hitter in a high leverage situation, ever again? Or just never faces another hitter ever, that would also work.

So how does Ricketts go about changing that ground rule?

Get rid of the ivy.

Shut your mouth! :-)

I was thinking about the game from way back, where the ball in the ivy went for extra bases or an inside the park HR. In that case, I think the OF threw up his hands, but the ball bounced out, which was why he was toast.

Yeah, I don't even care about the 4 strikes thing. He has a track record of sucking. Can't wait for Grimm to get back and Schlitter to move back into his apartment in Iowa...and stay there forever.

Baez debut 0-5, 3 Ks, before knocking out a game-winning HR. Cubs win in extras 6-5.

Bryant debut 0-4, 3 Ks. Pretty clear the Cubs are tying this, Bryant flies out in the 10th, and then wins it on a walk-off in the 11th.

Why are LenBob not concerned with the fact that it hit off the outfielder's glove first, and THAT'S what needs clarification? Not the ivy rule itself...

Because it doesn't need clarification. It's irrelevant.

what he said.

come on people. spring training is over. no room for these errors

I'll never understand how people who agree to sing the stretch have no [expletive] clue what the cadence to this song is.

I wonder how well they can hear up there. I'd be terrified to do it unless I could see someone conducting me from the pipe organ, and then only if I were wearing earplugs.

You... wonder if they can hear the organ, from inside the park? Why would you wonder that?

I'm not a physicist, but sound travels slower than sight, and music especially does funny things in big spaces.

There's more than one speaker in the stadium, and that wouldn't affect tempo anyway

offense is pretty putrid once you (reasonably) discount the two gift runs

To be fair, Shields has been outstanding today.

You do know that Bob isn't here anymore, right?

Yeah. I don't know why that came out and didn't feel like editing. Haven't posted here in a while, last time I did Bob probably was still here.

Irrelevant or not, I wish they'd at least mention that part of it instead of brushing it aside. The ivy rule happens often enough that I think most Cub fans understand it, but the hitting off of a player first part doesn't.

Welp, that was fun. Pinch hitter, Herrera, and Fowler vs. Kimbrel. Let me know how that works out.

I have confidence we will get Soler up with a chance to win

with kimbrel coming i'd kind of rather not bother with rondon here

Was thinking the same thing, even with Strop. If we are going to be winning more games this season, we have to actually use our setup guy and closer to maintain leads.

If we were going to bother with Rondon (or Strop for that matter), wish it would've been 2 innings ago.

HE'S THE 9TH INNING GUY, DUDE! Seriously, though, why not try and get 8 outs out of Strop/Rondon or just stick with Rosscup?
