Good pitching. Good hitting approach. Great bullpen.

Our team ERA is about 12th in the NL out of 15 teams, and our OBP is about 10th last I checked. Not sure I feel that's too impressive.

With the exception of a very few decent innings, what has anyone seen that would give them confidence in this team? As much as I loved the last two wins, what I've seen hasn't exactly given me hope. With the exception of Soler, of course.

They won baseball games.

I'm sure he still calls that 2nd pitch a strike on Soler if it was Votto in the box instead

So all it takes is facing Latroy and an idiot Reds manager to give you confidence in this team? Good to know.

I am not sure I would let you operate on me

All good things are to be discounted as externalities and all negative things are harbingers of things to come.

They also won 50% of the games that did not fit that description.

"Confidence" in the team is meaningless. It's a stupid, meatball term. I think they're a decent baseball team in a league with very few great baseball teams to worry about. It's a high-variance sport and they could have an awesome record or a terrible one in five months, but I see no reason to like them less than anyone outside of Washington or LA likes their team.

All that being said, the peripherals have been solid. The Cubs are swinging at balls outside of the strike zone less than any other team and lead the league in FIP. Unfortunately, their opposing BABIP is the highest in the league for the Cubs while the offensive BABIP is near the bottom of the league.

That's quite a leap and not even remotely close to what I said and/or suggested

There's more to pitching and hitting than just ERA and OBP

I'm honestly not sure what you *are* suggesting.

Some weird notion about having no confidence as a default and the team can only convince you to change that default setting by doing things that can't be discounted with glib dismissals.

They've played 6 games. There are no inferences to be made about how confident you should be in the team. The fact that they haven't choked on their tongues thus far, like the past few Aprils, is a good sign because it still means the likely outcome is still where they're projected to be, which is a pretty good team.
