Baez non-believers....what, if anything, would Baez have to in the minors for you to be excited about him again?

Not strike out 1 out of 3 times up.

He's done that every year in the minors.

Sweet another season begins where I'm going to be more interested in whats going on in the minors than the majors. Not that I thought Bryant would make the opening day roster. I was hoping Baez would make enough adjustments that he'd be there opening day. I think Russell and Bryant are ready, Baez obviously has some work to do. :bye:

Nothing he could do in the minors would 'make me excited about him' unless he turned into Sylvester Coddmyer III and hit a home run every time up.

I put it in quotes because I'm not totally throwing in the towel on Baez, but he's going to have to hit in the majors to get me fired up again.

Also, good call early ITT, David and TT, about Alcantara. I must have just had him in the OF mentally because he didn't pop to mind.

There is absolutely no reason to be more interested in the minors. Bryant is a MLB player who has to take a quick detour because of CBA reasons and the rest of the MLB team is very much worth being interested in now.

“I think we all agree that Javy is an extremely talented player and is going to be a big part of this organization for a long time," Epstein said. "He does so many things well on a baseball field. But we also agree all of us this was the right move. Right now he’s so close to getting it figured out in the batter’s box. We just feel Triple-A is the right forum for him to continue to make those adjustments and get locked in.

"He does everything else so well on the baseball field. He’s a winning baseball player. He’s just got to take that same mindset into the batter’s box, and it’s a slight adjustment, it’s a little tweak to his approach. We feel he’s not far from making it. We have his back 100 percent. But we feel like he needs those at-bats at Iowa to get it figured out."

Not going to lie, while I was fairly optimistic about Baez coming into camp, I'm now fearing he goes full on Brett Jackson, where he's worried about making adjustments after his horrid MLB stint and won't even be able to produce at AAA anymore. I'm probably reading too much into his spring stats, but I was expecting more there. I think Russell beats him to the majors.

What did that raging doofus do now?

He wrote an article around last week or so that said Baez made the team.

Reported last week that Baez had been told he was making the team.

There are the obvious issues. But if we take the Baez being a 50-50 decision on making the major league club as has been reported. Did Boras' railing on Bryant's service time issues sway the decision into Baez being sent down along with him?

Not sure why it would. Bryant is going to get the most attention no matter what. The Baez decision was pretty easy. Baez was scuffling, and the Cubs have two legitimate starters (for the time being) in La Stella and Alcantara. Best case scenario is that Javy tears it up in AAA and the Cubs get an extra year of control.
