:? Bryant's batting average has dipped below .250

It saddens me to see his nice slash line drop, its important to me, aesthetically, that his OPS stays above .800 for his entire season

don't really care what his OPS is (especially that it stays over an arbitrary point that no longer means what it used to) when he's got 3.3 fWAR in 90 games

i mean that's nice, but that war is banked now, and he needs a major adjustment

You guys will prolly bash me, call me stupid or whatever for what I am about to say but... Looks like KB is lost, could a week or 2 down in Iowa do him some good?

Why would that help?

regain some confidence maybe?

He's not an idiot; he's not going to go beat up on minor league pitching for a week and then think, "psh, this MLB thing is no problem!" Confidence isn't his problem; a lousy contact rate and trouble with a lot of pitches is his problem right now.

yeah this season the end result will be what ever it ends up being i suppose. hopefully in the offseason he will work on a 2 strike tweak to his swing

on a totally unrelated note, Joc Pederson is down to a .225 AVG on the season and is hitting .181 in his last 48 games with just 4 HR

Good for Bryant's ROY campaign for sure

Rookie seasons are a see saw of pitchers adjusting to you, you adjusting back, and so on. He can't adjust back in Iowa

This is true. The trouble is that we currently have 3 of these (Bryant, Soler, Russell) plus one in Schwarber that hasn't yet been adjusted to and another young player in Castro who seems to have forgotten how to play baseball altogether. And when you're in a playoff race, that makes things very complicated. This being said, in this stage of the Cubs' rebuild, giving all of these guys the experience and exposure to big league pitching takes precedent over the the Wild Card.

And if it all pays off in the form of a murderers row consisting of Bryant. And Rizzo. And Schwarber. And Russell. And Soler. AND/OR Baez/Castro at their potential, I don't think that anybody is going to look back and gripe about the year we finished 3rd and just fell short of the Wild Card.

Just saw in a Yahoo fantasy sports article that Fangraphs has Bryant as the 2nd best baserunner in MLB this year behind only Billy Hamilton.

Albert Pujols came into the Major Leagues like a Fully Formed Hall of Fame player, and never missed a beat for like a decade. In some ways I get why people whisper about steroids or his age coming into the leagues, etc etc because it's so bizarre how complete a player he was right from go.

The weirdest thing about the Albert Pujols decline is that he's gone from one of the most patient, disciplined walk-happy players to someone that absolutely despises taking a walk

It's like seeing someone's personality change before your eyes. Makes sense that once a player loses some bat speed they'll compensate and expand their zone, but I never thought I'd see Pujols like this. I'd figure he'd just let his average precipitously drop while staying the same patient dude, but nope, he's gone swing crazy.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light, Albert. (As long as you're on the Angels and as far away from the Cardinals as can be, thanks)

That's a bit far.

He still has a .060 IsoD and walks at a decent clip.

He's also probably not being pitched quite as carefully anymore.

Yeah, I'd say a decent amount of the declining walk rate is due to declining skills so pitchers aren't as afraid of him as much. And that's borne out in intentional walks as well. He had at least 22 each year from 05-10 and at least 34 from 08-10. Last year he had 11. This year he's at 7.

Last couple days have been pretty good for the Kris Bryant ROY campaign. Franco out for the year, so that's it for him. Grichuk will miss about 20 games, which has to hurt his chances as well.

Looks to me like his biggest competition at this point is probably Matt Duffy, who is batting over .300 with a 4.1 WAR.

Oh and Schwarber, of course.
