It feels like Lovie.

Jack Del Rio without the personality, IMO. But I actually like Del Rio. I honestly feel Lovie is a better coach.

I would take Del Rio over Fox.

go back to dennison

We could probably get him as OC and bring in a defensive HC.

I mentioned this earlier, but I think that Fox is this era's Schottenheimer. Competent and decent, but not exceptional or terribly creative. He does have two SB appearances as a coach, something Schotty didn't have even have half of.

I'm guessing Schottenheimer outperformed the hell out of Fox on a W/L basis for the first ~2/3 of their respective careers. Did Marty have more than 1 or 2 losing seasons, ever?

You're absolutely correct that Schotty was more successful in the regular season overall. That said. Fox had some fairly underwhelming Carolina teams (particularly in terms of offensive talent) during his run and they were largely competitive.

@mikefreemanNFL

So yes, no question, Bears highly interested in John Fox, source tells me.

Fox could be viewed by them as a sort of transitional object. The team is a mess and the last administration was apparently very unprofessional. Fox could be brought in to clean all that up, perhaps.

Yeah, the Ricky Renteria of the Bears?

That's what it looks like to me. Maybe Gase comes with him? I know he isn't popular around here these days, but I also don't see how you can blame Gase for the fact that Manning could barely throw yesterday.

Not really. I get the idea and theoretical value of a total pro coach with all sorts of ties to other pro coaches and the theoretical ability to assemble a high quality staff.

I'm just not sure Fox actually is that type of guy.

Fox would be more like if we hired Girardi when we hired Renteria.

This would the type of hire that a unproven young GM would make after

seeing the last GM run out of town after 3 seasons because he took a giant risk for a HC and it failed. Safe, high floor low ceiling hire

RT @AdamSchefter: John Fox declined HC interview with Jets, per NFL source. Hard to imagine turning down one HC chance unless there's real chance for another.
