Connecting the dots hypothetically here.

Pace = EIU alum

Mike Shanahan = EIU alum

Bears= not interested in Mike though

Kyle Shanahan =Mikes son. Just got out from Cleveland

Dan Quinn = already interviewed for HC job, Kyle is said to be his OC if he gets a job.

Could that be what the Bears have in mind? Or they could be trading for Romo. Or Jimmy Garoppolo. Or it could mean nothing.

You'd trade the 7th pick in the draft for a coach that just went 6-10 in one of the worst divisions in the history of football?

Not this year's 1st, maybe the 2025 one.

so you're going to count being struck in the head with a helmet and getting your thumb mangled in a facemask while making a touchdown-saving tackle after one of your receivers fell down in front of a cb as being injury prone? yeah, you a see how you a meatball.

I don't know, I wasn't really thinking it through as I don't think it has any possiblity of happening.

Also didn't they go 7-9?

Also isn't that incredibly short-sighted thinking?

Odd that there was hardly any mention of him before his hiring. Almost seems like he made a last minute decision to become the GM, jumped on a plane, walked into the executive offices and said "Search no further, for I am here". And proceeded to walk into the conference room to interview Bowles.

How can you NOT hire this man?

And Ballard shows up at Halas hall on Monday to start his first day of work

Carmichael interviewed two years ago. You think there's still interest there or has that star faded?

Not for nothing but didn't Phil Emery have complete control?

Yep. He just wasn't very good at it.

I thought that Ted Phillips was the head of Football (and Business) Operations during the Emery regime. I read the tweet to mean that Pace reports directly to George and Phillips is being Crane Kenney'd

That's how I read it as well. He did cap "complete" as if Pace is the man on the football side and not Phillips.

We'll find out tomorrow, but Bernstein said that part of the reason that Pace got hired over Ballard was that Pace wasn't really as concerned about organiational structure as he was about a plan to fix the product on the field. Ballard talked much, much more about org. structure.

But it's been said in several places that Emery had complete football control. I guess we'll here more tomorrow about who reports to whom.

I don't think with Emery or any GM there's any question about personnel or even FO staffing questions, but just the reporting chain of commands. Ballard may have really been concerned about not reporting into Phillips.

Maybe Pace simply walked in and presented a plan to actually get rid of Cutler.

Did it culminate in 2017 where we get a first round pick and pass the reigns over to our emerging second year QB?

The org chart thing is fascinating. I really want to know if Ballard shot himself in the foot by focusing too much on that and - if by contrast - Pace came in and said, "I don't care who I report to, just that I get decide who we pick for the team."

In general, this is a very interesting hire and outside the box of where I assumed they'd go. We should know more about his philosophy on talent soon.

Ballard probably walked in and said, wait a [expletive] minute this office is like way hire-fire and started asking too many questions. Pace, on the other hand, prolly walked in super doll-faced and grinned it up.
