Oh man the puns on his name are starting. "A steady pace"

And when we're all calling for him to be fired, the "get a rope" jokes right themselves.

If we're doing name jokes, wouldn't Bowles be better for a college job?

At least one twitter person has been going with "Bowels" jokes.

Depends which pronunciation you are going with.

Headline from when he gets fired some day:

"Bears release Bowels."

Or when he goes all Kromer...

"Bowels leaks info"

Or when Green Bay hangs 49 on his team:

"Packers, Rodgers smoke Bowles"

Would this open the door for Doug Marrone? He was the Saints OC for several seasons while Pace was there.

Hope not. Have heard nothing but horrible terrible things.

Yeah, he made some enemies. A lot of it seems to be power struggle in nature, which I would think would be a red flag for a new GM.

Is that the way it's pronounced? That's what I get for completely ignoring ESPN and talk radio. I've only seen the name in print.

No...it's just a childishly amusing, purposeful misspelling.

Bowels has grown on me. Though I reserve right to not like it based on his OC hire.

So Pat Mannelly talked to Mickey Loomis. Paraphrasing here, but he said that Pace will be more "in house" than Emery was. Emery liked to be out of the building scouting, and that Pace will be more of an executive and will lets his scouts do the scouting, and will be more of a building manager.

Somebody needs to take care of that moldy carpet situation. And Betsy in accounting has to stop reheating fish in the microwave.

Interesting perspective. I don't mind this. A GM is never going to evaluate all 300+ draft eligible players or just as many FAs. Being able to manage that whole process goes way beyond being a good talent evaluator yourself. It will be interesting to see how much FO turnover there will be.

More executive, less micro manager.

What the F is the point in hiring scouts if you don't trust them enough to do their own evals?

Looking at this with hindsight, Emery's drafting history makes a bit more sense.

More Mannelly info:

"He's not going to hire a bunch of yes-men. He's going to hire guys that are going bring their own opinions to debate with."
