Bernstein's source just said that his source said that all things being equal, they wanted a break from the past. Also that Pace had a much better feel for the bigger picture, and the need to build over multiple years.

That's like porn for Bernstein.

I never looked into Pace that much but my cursory glanced at Pace left me nothing to be excited for.

Someone convince me this is good.

Hard to do with GM's. Best I can say is that the Bears didn't just go with the expected.

But then, they didn't with Trestman either so....

Exactly. If he doesn't get rid of Marshall though, Bernstein is gonna hate Pace for eternity.

There's no real way to figure out who the next good GM is or to find out his past draft picks.

I'm not over the moon but I hope they hired the right guy as opposed to who's apart of their past.

Interesting #Bears situation today. acc. to sources, Todd Bowles was waiting and waiting in the Halas Hall lobby for his interview for HC job, turns out team was busy hiring Ryan Pace as GM. Then brought Bowles in for his HC interview with Pace as the new GM.

Hopefully he's not too offended, we did totally alter our schedule for him last minute.

Ryan Pace was a Saints scout when they signed Drew Brees. #Bears

Is that supposed to be meaningful?

What's his NO background again. I thought it was mainly as a pro personnel side.

Exactly. Was he the main scout of the Midwest region or something so he saw Brees when he was at Purdue? Just a weird tweet cuz Saints didn't draft Brees.

All we can really go off of is the fact that:

a) The Saints really didn't want to lose him

b) The Saints fans are pissed that they lost him

c) Pace apparently had such a good interview that they diverted from hiring Ballard at the very last minute when it seemed like Ballard was the heavy favorite going into the process.

He would have had to have been a pro scout if he's responsible for signing Brees away from San Diego.

Ryan Pace is a major loss for the #Saints organization, the most talented young talent evaluator in the building. Great hire by Bears.

Have heard nothing but positive things for quite a while about new Bears GM Ryan Pace. Bright young executive

Everything coming out sounds fantastic. One of his critiques was his ability to build a defense, but he certainly didn't have final say.

Brees had suffered a significant injury in his last game with the Chargers and Rivers was ready to step in at that same time. New Orleans took a gamble that Brees would recover from his injury and it worked out pretty well for them. It was an easy decision for San Diego to move on to Rivers. Some team was gonna take a chance on Brees. I suppose credit goes to NO for being that team.

Well I'm just going to have to judge him on his good looks and intro press conference.

Rival exec on Bears' hire of GM Ryan Pace: "Excellent. Coaches love him. Good pro guy. Hard worker. Very conscientious."

I like the coaches love him part. That may help a lot when convincing someone to take the job with Philips still looming.

Odd that there was hardly any mention of him before his hiring. Almost seems like he made a last minute decision to become the GM, jumped on a plane, walked into the executive offices and said "Search no further, for I am here". And proceeded to walk into the conference room to interview Bowles.

How can you NOT hire this man?

Honestly I thought that the hiring of Ballard was an almost certainty and the other interviews were just a formality.

By all accounts he has been a pro-side guy so far.
