I think Marshall is gone. They have no liability if they cut him, did a good job with his contract.

Fox isn't a good in-game coach. This will depend on who they get as coordinators. If he brings in Jeff Davidson as the OC, they should have kept Lovie given bad play calling, bad in-game managing from a players coach.

My guesses for OC are Gase or Davidson and DC is Allen or Trgovac.

That's not true re Marshall. I think they'll eat roughly 6 of his 9 M to cut him. Same to trade him.

Right...they still have money that they'd have to pay him, but they do save money by cutting him.

I guess I'd view that as a 6M liability still. You aren't going to replace his talent with that 3M. 3M and a top 75 pick... Maybe

Eta I guess it's nearly 4M. I could get behind a trade for a top 75-80 pick and throw that 4M and the pick right back into some faster and younger WR. Basically trading talent for depth, youth, and a more diverse skill set in the WR corps.

reports on that vary.

I've seen that 2015 has a guarantee but also that the money is only guaranteed to injury, so a healthy Marshall could theoretically be cut for nothing.

This is what I've heard as well. That he can be cut without the hit.

According to over the cap he had a 7.5M signing bonus so that's going to be prorated no matter what. That's 5.625 this year in dead weight. It also says his 2015 salary is guaranteed on the third day (same decision day for 10M of Jays 2016 salary). That doesn't matter if you're trading him though.

Unless that 7.5 is reported incorrectly and is a roster bonus or something I don't think we'll walk away for nothing.

boers and bernstein have been pretty much right with everything they've said about the bears (and cubs really) lately from their sources

might just be luck calling obvious stuff early on or maybe they actually do know people and things

This Fox hiring actually goes against everything they said after the firings. They were saying forget about next year. Forget about the next couple years. This isn't about the short-term.

Hiring an old man with quick turnaround histories is all about the short-term. This is an investment in the now, which refutes everything the "do it the right way" Bernstein has been on about.

I love Boers and Bernstein, but they were positive on the Trestman hire clear up until things started going sideways this year, calling his offense a "real offense". They were ok with Emery, too. Maybe that's to their benefit, giving the guys a chance until it's obvious they aren't competent, but clearly B and B aren't right about everything or even most things.

There's a big difference between potential cap ramifications and status of guaranteed money. If they want him gone and can get rid of him at little to no cost, the relatively small cap hit in 2015 will not be a huge problem.

Yes definitely a difference between actual money and cap hit. I thought we were looking at the latter only. Most NFL contracts can be walked away from with the former.

Anyways the guaranteed portion of 2015 makes little difference to the Bears if there is indeed a trade market for him.

UK made the point that they don't owe him if they cut him and you said it wasn't true and they would have to pay him $6m.

Okay but that's not too unusual in NFL terms either. Usually we as fans care more about the cap impact than the McCaskeys money, so that's what I though he meant.

ETA I also didn't day they'd "pay" him, just that they'd eat that money.

Well they shouldn't cut him anyways. Even if you can only trade him for a conditional 7th rounder in 2019 in May, that's better than just cutting him. And it doesn't effect our real cash or cap effect.

Realistically they should be able to still trade him for an actual pick though.

Gary Kubiak will meet with Broncos for their head coaching opening. Interview expected this weekend. Suffice to say Elway very interested.

[expletive] you, Kubiak.

Kubiak to Denver?

No.

I'll admit that it's more likely than I thought it'd be, but also they're interviewing 4 coaches, not just Kubiak.

I might buy that, but the whole time they take calls to berate anyone who disagrees.

Then their viewpoint turns out wrong and suddenly they move on.

I understand their job is to entertain and they do it well. But both of them are no more knowledgeable than other sports radio hosts.

So if not under Fox he must have something lined up.

Yeah. Think about it.

The difference is that Bernstein gets paid for attracting attention. Kyle doesn't...he does it for free.
