We really need another CB still. And a FS if Rolle is going to be SS. Otherwise our defense is coming together. Hopefully Fosters deal is a lot less than initially reported.

It certainly shouldn't be. Looks like it's a one year deal:

Brad Biggs @BradBiggs

#Bears add fomer #Bucs LB Mason Foster on a 1-year contract.

Aaron Leming @AaronLemingNFL

#Bears had roughly $15M in cap space going into the day. I expect Jenkins & McDonald to be close to vet minimum & Foster at $3M. Still room

Also, looks like the final draft order is out, accounting for compensation picks.

Adam Hoge @AdamHoge

#NFLDraft order is out. #Bears picks:

1st: 7th

2nd: 7th (39th overall)

3rd: 7th (71st)

4th: 7th (106)

5th: 6th (142)

6th: 7th (182)

No CBs left in free agency worthwhile. I'd probably sign Dashon Goldson to a cheap 1 year deal to play FS. Had success under Fangio at FS. I'd also use the bulk of the money to sign Stefan Wisnewski to play C. That would really lock up another spot in the OL for the next few years, which is quietly a big need.

The way I see it, the Bears still need a starting caliber player or strong competition at FS, CB, DE/DT, WR, OC, and OT. And that's without taking a BPA edge player at #7. Take care of FS and C in free agency and use the first 4 picks for CB, WR, DL, and OT.

John Fox says #Bears will start Shea McClellin at inside LB but he will be worked outside as well.

Were we aware of this concept before? Shea as an inside LB? I knew he was a bad OLB but not quite sure how that translates to trying him inside.

Start as in starting lineup or as in we'll begin trying him there? Hopefully the latter. I'd try to get him ready to back up all the LB spots. Maybe we can salvage him as super sub and special teams standout.

Please don't use that word. It has already been wrongly adopted by too many baseball people, it does not also need to infiltrate football.

I think they mean start the offseason program with him working there, not to have him start as inside linebacker.

For clarification:

When I said Shea will start that means that will be the first place he is lined up at when #Bears get on field -- inside vs outside

Just heard a clip of Jason Goff making my favorite Marc Trestman metaphor ever...

.

If he was black I would have said something like dynamic/versatile weapon. But his paleness exudes a certain scrappiness only "super sub" can adequately explain.

But seriously if he could just be really good at special teams and be ready to give a close to replacement level injury fill in at several LB spots I'd be happy at this point.

3. Bears need good guys, solid men who are leaders & example setters more than they need veteran run stuffers.

2. McDonald might have done nothing wrong and/or might have learned lessons, but there is a message sent by his signing.

1. The Bears are not at the stage of team development where they needed to take the risk of signing Ray McDonald.

well, at least more people are falling for the "process" concept that apparently requires the right time and place for signing bad guys.

I think bad here ultimately means different things to most fans and media than it does to Pace and Fox.

Allegations of abuse to women. Okay

Known fights with teammates and insubordination to coach and rules. Not okay.

A bit more complex than that, but generally I think there's a line being made between personal issues and locker room presence/personality.

Yeah...I'm so conflicted right now because I love that this is a middle finger to the "next year doesn't matter" idiots but I hate rooting for assbags...especially assbags who are predatory assbags to women.

Latest NFL Draft Tek - does not account for Gregory testing positive for Mary Jane (it was posted yesterday morning) - has Bears taking:

1. Cooper

2. Jordan Phillips (DT - Oklahoma)

3. Chris Hackett (FS - TCU)

4. Byron Jones (CB - UConn)

5. Cedric Reed (OLB - Texas)

6. BJ Dubose (DE - L'ville)

At this point I 'd like to see them do something else with 5 and 6, preferably at OT and C, but there isn't much talent there in this draft. I'd also prefer looking for a CB earlier than Round 4. I like Alex Carter from Stanford, for example, in Round 2. That frees you up to go FS in Round 3 (Holliman from L'ville) and DT in Round 4 (Raisin's boy, Ellis McCarthy) .

Considering all of the needs they still have, I think there is still a shot they move down in the 1st Round (New Orleans at 13? Carolina at 25? Baltimore at 26?), grab Shelton (13), Brown or Goldman (25-26) and add a second 2nd Round pick.

I skimmed it, but I believe it was Josh Norris on Twitter the other day saying there are around 15 for sure 1st round guys and then there's a little bottoming/evening out if you will. With a higher amount of 2nd round grades than usual. If I'm remembering that correctly, I could see wanting to nab an extra 2nd round talent. But it makes me just want to stay put and give yourself the best chance at an All-Pro.

They have enough needs they can't get tunnel vision and say "get a CB before round 4". Just grab the best value/fit each round at any position, even if you double up.
