Doug Farrar @SI_DougFarrar

Bears go from Mel Tucker to Vic Fangio. That, folks, is what is known as a monstrous upgrade.

this feels nice

Fangio mulled his decision for several days. Both CHI and WSH wanted him badly. Had a tall chore in front of him at either spot.

Nice to see he turned down the Skins for the Bears, even if they are a hot mess.

Remember Lovie's introductory presser? He said his first order of business is to beat Green Bay, as though beating them means anything more than beating the Lions or Vikings. Its just something these guys say to satisfy the general population.

yes and no, when Lovie was hired, GB was the class of the NFC. So, beating them consistently meant being the class of the NFC. GB at that time was in a string of 3 consecutive NFC North titles. He had to beat GB to do anything successful.

Bears still need to beat GB. They'll be top dog in this conference for 10 more years barring a Rogers crippler.

Not that I think Fox should have copied Lovie's opening presser.

If Detroit keeps playing the way they did all season they will need to beat them too. And if the Vikes give Bridgewater an O-Line and anyone to throw to...

My point isn't that beating GB isn't important - it is. That said, depending on the year, beating the rest of your division rivals can be and often is equally important. I guess if it were me, I might say something like:

"The first thing we are going to do is gear up to beat our divisional opponents. Green Bay has been the best team in the North for a number of years, so they are at the top of the list. But we need to beat all of them - the Lions were a playoff team last year and the Vikes are young and clearly on the up-swing. Beating all of them is the path to the playoffs."

I realize this is splitting hairs a bit, but its a message board.

It's just catering to the fans, some fans love that stuff. It's not they're extra effort into beating Gb and then less effort vs. everyone else. Those press conferences are part pep-rally.

Yes, that was my original point.

Go get Chud plz.

Would you take him over Gase?

Yep. Without a doubt. I feel like Chud is more creative. And I just don't know about Gase...he interviewed for just about every HC job that was open, and didn't get one. It just throws up red flags for me.

LaCanfora just said on the radio that Gase isn't an OC possibility for the Bears. But thinks it'll be someone experienced, not a newbie.

Vic Fangio sounds like the guy who comes looking for your dad when he hasn't paid his bookie.

That's disappointing. I'd rather have Gase.

Excellent insight as always Greenberg

I mean if it's the case Fox doesn't want Gase back as his OC, I'm not sure what there is to be disappointed about.

I seem to recall something about Jay liking Chud.

Can't find much on it other than some comments on his show last year that he couldn't believe Chud got fired and an article about our interest in him in 2010.
