College Football - Championship Week (Dec. 6)

I don't get how or why it's easy to recruit there (Nebraska). Tradition is a fickle thing. Do kids from TX really think they'd rather play there than Texas or A&M? Hell, Tech might be more fun.

Most kids who are being recruited are barely old enough to remember the last time Nebraska was a national contender. It's hard to recruit on tradition when you've been pretty irrelevant for the better part of 15 years.

yes this. I'm 21 and I barely remember Eric Crouch. Nebraska as a national contender is not something that I remember. If I was 4 years younger, Nebraska would mean nothing to me.

To be fair, I grew up in North Carolina and it might be different in the Midwest, but still.

I was 13 when they made the title game against Miami, and I always remembered that team as the sacrificial lamb to one of the better teams in recent memory. Outside of that, they've been pretty non-existent on the national landscape.

So now Illinois might not even make a bowl?

One of Illinois, PSU, Rutgers or Maryland

Gotta take PSU out of that group, don't you? They travel well, and it's the sexy pick with a first year coach and sanctions lifted.

And Illinois can't even fill its own stadium on senior day.

Sorry Tim. Certainly wasn't trying to say Illinois doesn't deserve to go bowling.

Starting to sound like David Beaty will be KU's next coach. I hope we offered Pelini and he turned us down, but I doubt we even did that. Of the Assistant coaches/coordinators we were targeting, I guess I like Beaty the best.

Apropos of nothing, I have a feeling Michigan's next coach will not be someone that's already being heavily discussed. My gut says Narduzzi (although I know his name has been floated a bit), but I wouldn't be shocked if they go off the board entirely.

picking Narduzzi would seem like a(nother) PR embarrassment for the program, resorting to Little Brother's assistants

Colin Cowherd of all people is saying there's an off-the-board possibility he's hearing from agents that would make Michigan faithful pleased; who the hell knows

1. Harbaugh

2. Mullen

3. Herman

is about my preference

Beaty is a great recruiter. Hate to lose him but I'm not sure he's really ready to be a HC. Oh well, good luck to him.

he allegedly is coming to KU for 800k plus incentives. He elected to have a low salary so he can spend a ton of money on assistants. It will be interesting to see who he brings on. I'm guessing Bowen stays as DC and Reggie Mitchell stays because he's awesome. After that, who knows. But with the right staff, I could get excited about the hire.

Yeah I saw that (Cowherd's rumor). He said it isn't someone who has been discussed.

Honestly I have no idea who that is. Any guesses?

This is my first look at Mariota since the MSU game. He looks incredibly pedestrian. What am I missing?

Patience. You were missing patience.

This is a complete beat down. Arizona has been out gained by over 350 yards and has only 3 first downs.

I think everyone says this every time they see Mariota. And he still ends up completing 65% of his passes with 0 turnovers.

On bubble screens and 5 yard slant patterns. It's a pretty typical zone-read college offense with really, really good skill players executing it. Penn State tried to run the exact same offense, but didn't have the players to do it

There's a report Muschamp is heading to South Carolina and a chance to take over from Spurrier when he should retire.

I'm sure Boom is fired up about another Head Coach In Waiting title.

I take it you missed the perfectly placed 3rd and 15 pass down the seam to Charles Nelson for 73 yards.

You have to project him in the NFL since he doesn't play a pro style offense (though a lot of NFL teams are introducing spread concepts) but he has great tools and is able to read defenses. He's got good arm strength, elite speed and great pocket presence.

(FYI, this was probably Mariota's second worst game of the season.)
