College Football - Championship Week (Dec. 6)

It's not a matter of ignoring it. Is the committee's job to determine the four most deserving teams, or the four BEST teams? Based on the B1G title game, it's tough to argue that OSU isn't one of the four best teams in the country

Football is a week to week sport. One team looks great one week than less so the next. Ohio State looked not that great just the week before. I don't see how the playoff shouldn't be whomever has the best results. Not considering early games is close to putting on the hottest teams at the end of the year. They only play 12 (13) games. They all matter.

But how is that different than any other year? A late season loss is ALWAYS worse than an early season loss, fair or unfair

It should be the four most deserving teams.

Disagree. That mentality made Wichita State a #1 seed last year.

At that point the process potentially becomes even more arbitrary than it already is and there could easily be a time when you're arguing in a 2-3 loss team into a national championship position which I just don't like. There have been worse tragedies in college football than Ohio State getting in over TCU/Baylor though. I just hate scenarios in college sports that diminish early season games for no reason.

Wichita finished 5th in Kenpom last year and lost by two points to a team that made the National Title game.

It's quite easy to argue OSU isn't one of the best four teams (This isn't saying they are or aren't one of the best four). Two weeks ago OSU led Indiana by 1 going into the fourth quarter and one week ago they were tied with Michigan at halftime and led by only 7 going into the fourth quarter. And they only beat Minnesota by 7 while TCU beat them by 23.

If Baylor or TCU had made it over OSU, I wouldn't have made much of a fuss. As others have said, the bigger problem was the process, not the results

What's with ND vs LSU in bowls? 3rd time in 17 years. Hopefully this one isn't as terrible as the last two.

HEY BUTTERS we should get together in a virtual kind of way and watch the Citrus Bowl together and I can tell you all about the great Jerry Kill since sulley's gotta hate

this sounds great i would like to know more about your head coach that seems to be taking the B1G by storm

And that same week featured Baylor barely beating a dreadful Texas Tech team. TCU narrowly escaped against an even worse Kansas team.

Wouldn't you rather get to gameplan for a guy who has more than 1 start to scout?

that's one silly way to look at it. OSU's offense is not going to dramatically change. So it comes down to stopping a freshman with virtually no experience or facing two guys who have been considered Heisman candidates and who have tons of starts between them. You really think Saban is [expletive] himself because he has limited film on this guy?

Did I say he was [expletive] himself? If I'm supposed to buy into this super-secret Saban game-planning powers then it really shouldn't matter who he's scheming against. Then again he probably wouldn't have lost to a 15 point underdog Oklahoma squad, but maybe that was the "they didn't really care" excuse they used when Utah embarrassed them.

This isn't really particular to Saban. I would guess 9/10 coaches would rather face a team run by a freshman with one game under his belt than Boykin or Petty.

If Jones didn't have a game under his belt in which he put up an outstanding performance (Better passing rating than any game Barrett had)against an in the very least good defense, if not elite(something like 2nd in NCAA in Yds/Gm heading into the Championship), then sure.

I didn't see it posted here but did anyone else see the stupid decision Bob Stoops made yesterday?

OU is up 35-28 and punting on 4th and 14 from the OSU 45 and 1:09 on the clock. OSU guy fair catches the ball at the 15. However there was a running into the kicker penalty. Rather than just take the kick and make OSU go 85 yards in 1:00. But he decided to rekick for some reason and the OSU player returned the kick for a TD and OU lost in OT.

I would have understood the decision had there been a bad punt or a decent return but I'd take a punt downed at the 15 any day.

If you're punting from the opponent's 45, the odds are very, very good you can down it at the 15 or better again. Even if you kick it out of the end zone it's only 5 yards worse off, and you've wasted about 15% of the remaining time on the clock doing so. Mistake in execution more than decision-making IMO
