Charlie Blackmon is supposedly available for starting pitching.

They reportedly asked for Dillon Gee from the Mets. I don't know a ton about Dillon Gee, but if the Rockies are willing to overlook Travis Wood, the two seem relatively comparable to my untrained eye. Wood's a year younger, and both are under team control through 2016.

Have you looked at his home/away splits? Scarry

Home/road splits for Rockies players can be pretty much ignored.

Why exactly would you do that?

I'm intrigued by Blackmon, Good power/speed combo. How do the metrics like him in CF?

FWIW, Rosenthal mentioned Cubs are interested.

Looks like averagish last year, but a fair amount below average the year before.

There's a documented effect that playing in Coors so much hurts you on the road because of how Coors messes with breaking pitches.

Plus the NL West is full of pitcher's parks.

Travis wood in Coors would be the funniest thing ever

We signed Daniel Bard to a minor league deal/ST invite, apparently

Don't let him pitch sim games against anybody good please

Didn't the Cubs sign him last year too and later cut him?

I think so, either last year or the year before.

Bard didn't allow a hit this year in the 2/3 of an inning he pitched. He also K'd a guy in A Ball for the Rangers.

Of course, I guess he could stand to work on his control a tad, as he hit 7 and walked 9, which may have helped lead to what appears to be a slightly inflated ERA of 1.75. I mis-typed, his ERA was 175.50. Yes, 175.50.

Maybe his catcher sucked at pitch framing.

Cubs signed LHP Francisley Bueno to a minor league deal.

Bueno was non-tendered by the Royals despite a terrific 2.98 ERA over 60 1/3 innings. He will compete for a spot in the Cubs bullpen.

Another option for the LOOGY spot. Has held lefties to a .530 OPS in his career.

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal

Source: Max Scherzer is close to signing a seven-year deal. Between #Nationals and one other club. First reported: @JonHeymanCBS

Woah sounds like this is picking up fast.

If Scherzer does indeed go to Nationals, you would have to think the Tigers wouldn't have a choice but to extend Price. That would take one big name off the 2016 FA SP market.

Looks like Scherzer to the Nats is about to go down.

Per a source, Max Scherzer to the Nats is "very close." Not finished yet.

Would really love for the Cubs to be in on Zimm.

For what it's worth, #stlcards have not been involved in a Max Scherzer pursuit. Washington scribes now saying it's the #nats.
