Starting to worry that Briggs isn't going to play Sunday

McClellin is not going to play. I think Briggs has a better chance of going than Bostic, which sucks.

Going to guess McClellin, Bushrod, Dixon, Bostic, Conte and Garza all miss. Boggs gets cut and sent to the practice squad as a LB is added to the roster (Terrell Manning).

@Rand_Getlin: The #Bears announce they've signed safety Shamiel Gary to a one-year contract.

@AdamHoge: Shamiel Gary started every game at strong safety for Oklahoma St. the last two years. Spent the preseason with #Patriots. Among final cuts.

6 safeties on the roster. Guessing Conte is out this week at least. Also wonder with the 2 LBs signed to the practice squad if that's not bad news for McClellin and/or Bostic.

Adam Hoge was on The Game this afternoon and mentioned that early word is that Conte's concussion wasn't too severe. (the rest is him speculating, not anything the Bears have said) Don't be shocked if he's out there Sunday despite 2 concussions in 45 days.

Is there really such a thing as a minor concussion?

This game is going to be a train wreck. Like 45-17 or something. Season ovah.

The Falcons have a horrible, horrible defense. The Bears will score at least 30. They are terrified of the Bears offense.

I definitely think there's levels. Ratliff obviously had a pretty bad one, he's going to miss at least 3 games with his concussion. Vontaze Burfict is going to miss his 4th game probably this week. There are plenty of players that haven't missed games after a concussion. So, some appear to not be as severe as others. I don't know that I would call any of them "minor" though, I guess.

According to DVOA, Atlanta's defense is ranked 28th in the league. Carolina's is ranked 27th and we scored 24 so...I don't think we'll have a problem moving the ball but are we going to shoot ourselves in the foot repeatedly like we have the last 2 weeks?

The Bears offense seems angry enough to start making plays and stop shooting themselves in the foot. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the game that the Bears offense finally puts it all together and scores more than 30. My worry is that Matt Ryan at home lights up the scoreboard and doesn't lose much in the dome. They've scored 37 (in OT) and 56 in 2 home games this year.

I feel like quality of the defense is almost irrelevant. We're going to do six awesome things and six terrible things against everyone.

Exactly, and while they did get lit up by the Saints, in their most recent home game they allowed something like 220 yards and 14 garbage time points to the Bucs. Obviously the Bears are significantly more talented than the Bucs on offense, but its clear this team plays better at home.

Tampa was down 35-0 before they even knew what happened. They were without their starting RB and their QB got hurt in the game. McCoy also missed on defense. That game is an anomaly for that defense. That being said, the offense in the dome is very real. Bears won't win if they don't score 30, and may lose even if they do.

Will be interesting to see if this blows up...

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2014/10/09/jerry-angelo-chicago-bears-national-football-league/16981865/

A former NFL executive said teams did not discipline players in "hundreds and hundreds" of domestic violence incidents during his 30 years in the league, and said he now regrets his role in the failure to take action.

"I made a mistake,'' Jerry Angelo told USA TODAY Sports. "I was human. I was part of it. I'm not proud of it.''

Angelo, who was general manager of the Chicago Bears from 2001 to 2011 and has been out of the league since, said his typical approach after learning of a player's involvement in a domestic violence case was to inquire, "OK, is everybody OK? Yeah. How are they doing? Good. And then we'd just move on. We'd move on.''

"We knew it was wrong,'' Angelo said. "…For whatever reason, it just kind of got glossed over. I'm no psychiatrist, so I can't really get into what that part of it is. I'm just telling you how I was. I've got to look at myself first. And I was part of that, but I didn't stand alone.''

"For whatever reason, it just got glossed over." But then later in the article he admits that the Bears and the other teams he worked for just wanted to win games and if everyone in the domestic incident was OK (sure they always were!), they wouldn't discipline the player. The McCaskeys can't be happy with Jerry saying that.

Back to Rex Ryan. Can he coach a 4-3 or is it time for the Bears to move to a 3-4? Would a 3-4 even work with the personnel the Bears have, especially Ferguson and Sutton? Edited by Wilson A2000

They could play it if the scheme is 1-gap. No OLBs on the roster though. You'd think Rex could coach 4-3 considering his dad did it to perfection.

Would Oakland or Jacksonville or Miami or Buffalo give him a head coaching job first? Those teams have crappy offenses and that's something Rex can't fix.

This. Plus not only if you make him a DC which will bring out the media being all "when will Trestman go?", you'll have to pay Rex just as much or more than what Trestman makes IMO. He's going to look for a HC elsewhere first and someone will give him a chance.

Bears WR Brandon Marshall: The sprained right ankle I suffered in Week 4 was supposed to keep me out 4 games.

2:03pm - 9 Oct 14

I'm assuming he meant week 3 because he was hurt during that game and didn't seem to have any new injury issues against GB.

@ESPNChiBears

Matt Fote said Jay Cutler spoke to the offense. Message: We're better than this.

@ESPNChiBears

That would be Matt Forte. Not sure what Matt Fote feels about #Bears vs. #Falcons.

Angelo now saying the "hundreds and hundreds" comment was not referring to domestic abuse. Just anything done against NFL rules? To be fair, the USA Today quote is a snippet and doesn't properly set the context, something Angelo doesn't have control over in the published article. But on Twitter, people link the hundreds to domestic abuse and quote Angelo.

Atlanta could be a good fit for him if Smith gets bounced, offense is in place already
