That was mine

credit to @Stannis for the scoop, hat tip to @David for posting the tweet, nothing to @minnesotacubfan

I'd never make it as an internet sports reporter.

You have angered Jay Glazer.

"We're staying in it, but I'm not sure how strongly we're in consideration given the other options,'' Evans said. #SFGiants

If we trade for Montero and sign Lester in one day, I wonder if we'll suddenly be "winning" this offseason.

I'm not sure why the Giants would come out and say that unless they are just prepping their fans for bad news.

Or maybe Lester has indicated he wants to go to SF, but is trying to get them to up their offer to match the Cubs/Red Sox, and Evans is calling their bluff.

I'm almost positive the Cubs have the highest offer out there and it may include a 7th year.

How old are you guys?

I was in high school in '84 and wanted to take a bat to Steve Garvey. I wanted to do the same in '89 to Will Clark. Both a couple of arrogant assholes.

BTW, in '89 I was married and stationed in Fulda, Germany.

So a #Giants exec in middle of intense high-stakes talks over Lester just said his club in "back seat"? Sorry, not buying it. #Posturing

That would explain the conflict then. Red Sox have the heartstrings...Cubs have the most money, and the Giants are feeling out of it.

I'd be shocked if we guaranteed a 7th year

#PTR: A 7th year? I'll have relenquished the club in bankruptcy court by then anyways.

I don't get it, I think SF is just being honest. They are #3. I just don't think that a mlb gm would play "wooo is us" in order to lure a pitcher? That's got to backfire

I don't think montero has anything to do with it. They either sign an ace or they don't.

Obviously they're setting the table to explain why the Cubs didn't get him.

Jesse Rodgers on ESPN 1000 seems pretty positive that the Cubs have the highest offer or at least at the same level as Boston. He thinks its Money/Curse Breaking (Chicago) vs. Heartstrings (Boston).

He also thinks the Cubs changed course over the last couple of days in acquiring Hammel and Montero to show Lester they are prepared to compete next year.

Cool...

Now to get that follow up move for another bat that was mentioned the other day!

[expletive] Boston, they tried to low ball you, Jon.

Chicago is the place you want to be. We love you and you'll be a Rick Sutcliff like god.

Did you miss the angst over the White Sox "winning" the offseason the other day?

According to multiple league sources, there is a growing sense among those in the industry that Lester is leaning towards signing with the Chicago Cubs. Sources have indicated to Over the Monster that the Cubs are making a hard push to sign Lester and the two sides are deeply entrenched in conversation. A final decision will likely come on Tuesday or Wednesday from Lester's camp.

Over the Monster is an SB Nation Red Sox blog. Have no idea if they are just rehashing information or if they have legit sources.
