Gordo seems to have a particular ax to grind, though as David has said, that has been the M.O. at the Sun Times for so long that they probably don't know how to turn it off.

Barring some really pleasant surprise with these two new contracts, it seems like Gordo was kinda right.

But on the fliipside, Wittenmeyer reports the Cubs have talked about Zimmerman. Immediately, all the FO-slurping reporters in town get the same leak and report that this is wildly wrong. Everyone laughs at how stupid Wittenmeyer is. Two weeks later we find out that the Nats have been shopping Zimmerman, more or less proving that the Cubs had to have at least talked about it.

I haven't got into specifics regarding the TV deal to know if this amount is expected, but Wittenmeyer expressed concern that the Cubs might not be able to double their TV deal with there being few suitors, and Theo responded that they will double it easily. Said it in a matter of fact way. And he called Wittenmeyer a "recent expert" in TV deals when he disagreed so that was fun.

Combo of a few things. Makes you look like a clued in expert, better than your competitors. Also people generally RT the first report they see, so first story with a link wind the traffic battle.
